Challenge To Me

Challenge To Me

.

I told Pam I thought I could write a blog about anything,
And she took me literally and a challenge she did bring.
She picked a small object sitting on our book shelf.
And said “write a Hawg blog about this to test yourself.”

Challenge To Me

.

The small object Pam picked was very precious you see,
Because it was a gift that my Mother had given to me.
My Dad and Mom had gone on an long Alaskan cruise.
And she bought It on an excursion ashore she did choose.

The Alaskan Cruise is truly fantastic.

.

I recall when my Mom and Dad were preparing to go,
We had gone out to see them and Mom wanted to know,
If I could teach them to waltz while on their long cruise,
So I taught my Mom to waltz while Dad sipped on booze.

One two three, one two three,……

.

.

Mom told me later when they were waltzing on the ship,
She thought of me teaching to the Westphalia Waltz,
By Hank Thompson and The Brazos Valley Boys.
As they danced so proudly on that cruise ship, ahoy.

They’re out there on the dance floor somewhere.

The object Mom bought represents Alaska in many ways,
The Klondike gold rush started about 1897 in those days.
There is a little gold miner on top with cute little pick.
Standing by a pile of stuff looking like gold so thick.

The Alaskan Gold Rush occurred in this area.

That gold looking stuff is often called ‘fools gold,
That fooled so many miners up there in the cold.
It’s proper name is “iron pyrite” having a yellow color,
But it’s not worth anything at all, not even a dollar.

Iron Pyrite or “fools gold”

The mountain that little miner is standing on is a geode,
Or simply speaking, a rock that formed many years ago,
With a gas bubble in the middle so they are hollow.
Some have quartz crystals inside as does this little fellow.

.

.

When you cut geodes in half, they are beautiful inside,
Making a perfect little cave for the little miner to ride.
The colored lines on the cut edge are maybe iron oxide.
The geodes come from Alaska on the mountain sides,

The streaks of color are quite pretty.

So I think Mom picked a very special Alaska souvenir.
For old Bill to love and cherish over the long years.
Mom always had a good eye for things I love myself,
And I think of her every time I see it the there on the shelf.

.

As you have seen, that one little object Pam did pick,
Rattled loose some old memories from my head so thick,
And I met that challenge that she presented to me,
So she will be surprised when this blog she does see.

Write a blog about this small object Hawg Jaw.

I guess most of the stuff around this house so old,
Can stir loose a memory or two from under a fold,
There in my brain that is just laying in there so cold.
Ready to find a way out to my blog in writing so bold.
