Beetles And Bugs

Beetles And Bugs

.

When I was a kid, I played with some beetles and bugs,
Others I always gave a wide birth like they were bad thugs.
Some were fun and some were just creepy crawler scary.
I also avoided any bug that was very ugly or somewhat hairy.

The Fire Fly is an amazing creature with a cold light in his butt,
In the evening when he begins his flight, he starts to strut.
He turns his cold butt light on so he can see where to fly.
Turning it on and off, he finds his way flickering in the sky.

.

When a few thousand fire flies take off together to begin flight,
A beautiful twinkling cold light show is just an awesome sight.
These tiny little beetles are one of Natures wonders in motion.
Children often chase the little fire tails causing a commotion.

The Tumble Bug has an unusual way of transporting their young.
When old Buffalo Bob drops a paddy, they jump right in the dung.
They eat the smelly warm dung for their daily nourishment
And roll themselves a big ball of crap to deposit an egg within.

.

They roll the big ball of Buffalo doody away from the dung pile
And bury it to provide food for their kid as he grows for a while.
The young beetle hatches and looks for a fresh pile of dung to eat.
These little turd rollers are fascinating to observe, but watch your feet.

Roll that big ball of dung big boy, you get an “A” for turd shaping this week.

The Blister Bug was a creepy crawler that I avoided at all cost.
On touch and they released a blister juice and bare skin was lost.
Giant blisters would rise up on the skin that stung and hurt bad.
If you ever mashed one on your skin it would make you very sad.

.

One night when I was sleeping out in the backyard at my house,
A blister bug crawled in my bed roll with me and got real close.
I rolled on him and squashed him on my back and arm in there.
I had large blisters all over my trunk and on my arms everywhere.

Warning, do not touch unless you want some big blisters on your skin.

The Vinegaroon is mean looking bug that gets up to 3 inches long.
The things look just like a scorpion to me so I left them alone.
They had these long pinchers and a whip that looks like a stinger.
They would catch large centipedes and eat them and not linger.

.

I saw many people pick these monsters up in their hands.
And let them crawl on their bodies as if it were a pile of sand.
I thought they were crazy thinking they may soon be a dead man,
But the Vinegaroon never bit, stung, or pinched their tasty hand.

This guy’s got some cahoneys to pick that ugly Vinegeroon up in his hand.
