Aunt Opal
.
My wife Pam’s Mom, Ruby, had a lovely sister named Opal,
Ruby was close to Opal and as young ladies they had a ball.
They both lived in Borger, Texas, we visited very often,
So I became well acquainted with Aunt Opal back then.

Ruby, we called MaMo, told me stories about Aunt Opal,
When they were growing up together as young people,
I kind of got the idea they were just a bit on the wild side,
But worked so hard for their family along their young ride.

From MaMo’s pictures from their younger years back then,
Aunt Opal was a real beauty so shapely and so very thin,
As they chased young men, always looking back to see,
If they were looking back to see their very shapely bodies.

I met Aunt Opal at MaMo’s house on Thanksgiving day,
At 411 West Grand in Borger for the traditional holiday.
I did not know her at all, but she seemed to know me well,
I think MaMo had told her every thing there was to tell.

Aunt Opal talked a lot to me before we had our big meal.
Telling me about her children Richard and Janell, in detail.
I could tell she cherished them more than anything else,
With a motherly love which was much more than wealth.

After that time, Aunt Opal made a point to come see us,
Each time we came to visit MaMo and PoPo as a must.
She kept us updated on her children when we saw her,
And we filled her in on what we were doing away so far.

When we lived at Fritch, I got well acquainted with Richard,
As when Pam and I went out around town dancing hard,
Occasionally, we would see Richard and talk quite a bit,
When he was running an Engine Repair Shop with his grit.

I recall when Richard at a very young age passed away,
And they had the graveside very near Nowada that day.
Aunt Opal asked me if I would be a pall bearer for her,
And I told her yes, of course, I will be proud to serve.

So over the years, I grew to love Aunt Opal on our trips,
She was always so very sweet with her fast talking lips,
We were there that day when Aunt Opal was laid to rest,
Next to her son Richard, she was one of the very best.

After the funeral, we gathered at our home in Bartlesville,
To celebrate the life of Aunt Opal in heaven by His will.
We had fine wine and talked of her great life on earth,
Such a fine lady she was from the very day of her birth.
