Atlanta, Georgia

After we had been going to Army classes in Avionics at Fort Gordon, Georgia for a few weeks, we were looking for some excitement, so we cooked up a trip to Atlanta. Here’s the story.

Atlanta, Georgia

During one of the 19 weeks, I was going to Avionics School at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Three of the guys in my class approached me and asked me If I had a credit card. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but I was drafted at age 25 and I did indeed have a credit card. I told them yes and a big old grins popped onto their faces. They told me they were thinking about renting a car and spending a weekend in Atlanta, but you had to have a credit card before you could rent a car. We worked out a deal so each the other guys would pay me 25% of the rental fees up front in cash and we were off to Atlanta the next time we had week end passes.

We left about 6 AM Saturday morning and drove the 100 miles to Atlanta and rented a motel for Saturday night. It so happened that the Atlanta Braves were playing the Boston Red Sox at noon in Atlanta that day, so we headed for the ball park. We has a lot of popcorn, peanuts, and cracker jacks and washed it down with a lot of beer that afternoon. The Braves won so the crowd was very happy. We headed back to the motel and this guy named Paul and I decided to check out this titty bar we had seen on the way to the motel. We went in and this girl with big schlonskis was doing a pole dance. We ordered a drink and the girl finished her dance and came over to our table. She sat on both our laps for a while and then left. I told Paul that I hoped she did not transmit any diseases to us and we walked back to the motel.

We had a great time watching the baseball game. We cheered for Atlanta, although we were all from different parts of the country.

We decided to pick a high end night club on Peachtree Street to go to Saturday night. It so happened that there were four nice looking young ladies there that invited the four of us to join their party. We had fun all night long drinking and doing dances with the girls that none of us knew how to do to songs like “Funky Broadway” and “Chain, Chain, Chain”. The girls left and we went back the motel a little bit tipsy to sleep it off.

We slept in until about noon on Sunday, and headed back the 100 miles to Augusta, Georgia, all feeling like we had a really great time. On the way back, we started planning a trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but that’s another story.
