Long Time Cowboy
My Dad was a huge Dallas Cowboy fan in the days of my youth,
I guess it rubbed off on me as I watched his every move.
Dad knew all the team and yelled bad words at the opposition.
He knew every player by name for each offensive position.
How about those Cowboys!

Long Time Cowboy
I’ve been a Dallas Cowboy fan since I graduated Phillips High
In 1961 as a young adult just starting to give the world a try.
Dandy Don Meredith became the quarterback in the year 1962.
He could pass that ball and was an interesting character too.
In 1965, Bob Hayes was drafted as the world’s fastest man.
I watched the games on television with my Dad on the divan.
On the last play if Dallas was behind, they huddled once more,
Dad would say the play is “Bullet Bob go deep” to make the score.
In 1971, Roger Staubach became the quarterback of the Cowboys,
They won the Super Bowl that year and in 1977 again with poise.
Beating Denver 14 to 6 with help from Running back Tony Dorsett.
And their Doomsday Ii defense that big Super Bowl win to get.
In the 1990’s, Dallas had the triplets in play to win games with.
The three were Troy Aikman, Michael Irving and Emmitt Smith.
I watched every game in those days when they were really alive.
Super Bowls were won for seasons 1992, 1993, and in 1995.
Tony Romo came on the scene in 2006, but always did choke,
When the pressure was too high in the playoff games, no joke.
Later his skills improved but he was very fragile, always hurt.
Perhaps, they will replace him soon with a young rookie squirt.
.
Last year I adopted Denver to replace the Cowboys I did love so,
Because I wanted a team I was rooting for to win before I do go.
If I can’t win with the Cowboys, I’ve rooted hard for so very long,
At least the Broncos that they rode in on let me sing my song

PS: The Dallas Cowboys may have found that rookie replacement for Romo with Dak Prescott. How about those Cowboys this year?
Thanks for reading Long Time Cowboy,
