Have you noticed lately that new country music is not country,
It has phased into 80’s Rock and no longer appeals to me.
Strait and Jackson noticed this change a long time ago,
When they sang that special song “Murder On Music Row.”

What Happened To Country Music

How long has it been since you have heard a fiddle open a song,
Or heard a steel guitar whining as the music flows on along,
The heart and soul of country music has now disappeared,
Replaced by rock music sounds that really burns your ears.

Ahhh Haaaa, let those twin fiddles play.

I guess too many Rock and Rollers switched over to country,
Starting about the year 2000 going down hill very rapidly.
Today, I don’t listen to the new country rock at all on the radio,
Classic country music from the far past is the only way to go.

Why can’t I free your doubtful mind, and melt your cold cold heart.

So I listen to K 99.5 Big Country classic country music all the time,
The only real country music station left out there of this kind.
The Country Music Awards featured real country artists this year,
But the songs getting awards were the Country Rock Songs, I fear.

Have you ever tried to two step to a country rock song,
About all you can do is shake, wiggle and bounce along.
You can’t get lost in the music and float across the dance floor,
Like you can do with the real country we don’t hear anymore.

Most of the real country music stars have passed on and gone,
But their music will live on as recorded when they were young.
For this I am thankful as I have the good stuff they recorded,
Available on Spotify and CDs all in my own special order sorted.

There’s Jones, Haggard, Twitty, Williams, and Bob Wills too,
Who all made enough real country music to see us on through.
There’s Cline, Wells, Jackson, Lynn, and Wynette on the ladies side,
With that real country sound to give you chills on your hide.

What a band they must have in heaven.

Some singing stars still alive and kicking do record good stuff.
There’s Strait, Jackson, Black, Brooks, and Gill with his fluff.
And Chestnut, Yoakam, Tritt, Paisley, Watson, and Stone too.
I think some of these guys are also close to being through.

Some of the country singers left that still sing real country music.

I guess I love the music I grew up with back when I was young,
And there will be a generation that loves country rock strong.
It’s so great to live in a country that we can pick our own music,
Rather than a country with a dictator that rules with a big stick.

I know a lot of young people really love that new country rock,
Mom really loved Sinatra, Crosby, and Andrews Sisters so hot.
So I guess I will just keep on listening to the old country I love,
And quit complaining about the new country rock music shove.
