Turning Loose

Turning Loose

.

I had this place down behind our home as a young kid,
Where I used to go to get away before I went to bed.
There was a big patch of summer clover down there,
Covered with small white flowers on it everywhere.

I remember when I was young and always on the fly,
On a clear night, I laid in the clover looking up at the sky,
Turning loose of my day watching the stars twinkle.
Kind of floating off the ground as my body just tingled.

My senses seemed to magnify all of nature’s glory,
Like I was living one of those old fairy tale stories.
In the sweet smell of the clover’s small white flowers,
As I lay there enjoying life for what seemed to be hours.

The night was so crystal clear as I looked to the sky,
Watching millions of stars drifting into a natural high,
Way off in the distance I can hear the lonely call,
Of the meadow lark adding to the wonder of it all.

A cool summer nights breeze felt so good to me.
Moving my long blonde hair around ever so slightly.
As it kept the pesky mosquitos from flying around,
In this small piece of heaven that I had found.

.

As I was drifting off into dream out there in the dark,
I heard the loud sound of a close dog that did bark,
My dog who was laying there next to me so quiet,
Had been disturbed by some movement off to the right.

I had been rudely disturbed from my peaceful tranquillity,
By a raccoon who was standing there staring at me,
My dog took off chasing that coon up a nearby tree,
And I went on home and resumed life as a boy so free.

I dearly love to put an end to his natural high.

Message:

It’s so nice to get away into a fantasy world at times,
As it makes your body and spirit feel so very fine.
But you can’t stay there too long before you move on,
If you ever really do expect to get anything done.
