Trust Your Instincts
Occasionally, some strange things happen to us that need action,
If you use your instincts to help you, you won’t lose any traction.
This poem describes a few times that my instincts helped me,
I think everyone’s end stinks every once in a while, shoowee.

Trust Your Instincts
I have never considered myself a particularly brilliant person.
But over the years, I’ve come to rely on my senses for a reason.
When you think that what you are thinking just might be right,
Investigate yourself and on the issue and spread a little more light.

I recall once when we were visiting Silver Dollar City to clog.
I said “I love that you can hear chirping of the green tree frogs.”
A lady said “Oh that’s not real, they pipe the sound in for our appeal.”
I followed the sound and found a tiny green frog that was so real.
.
.
I knew you were really there no matter what that lady said. You have a beautiful chirp.

Not too long ago, Pam had our dish washer going in our kitchen,
I was sure I could smell something burning, but I could find nothing.
My gut told me to keep looking, so In the dish washer I looked.
Flames shot up to my face, and I felt like I was being cooked.
.
.
.
The dish washer had shorted out and ignited the plastic internals.
After inhaling burning plastic fumes, I put out the flaming inferno.
My instinct to keep looking may have saved our home this time,
And we replaced a 42 year old dish washer, which was just fine.
.
.
This could have burned out our whole kitchen if we had not caught it early. Perhaps we should change out our dish washers before they get 42 years old.

We were heading the lake one day when my oil light came on bright.
I started to drive on, but my gut told me that just wasn’t right.
I stopped immediately at a Nowata station to check the oil level
The oil was about all gone and I wondered “Well what the devil.?”
.
.
.
I bought some oil and added two quarts to bring the level up quick
Then checked it again and the level was still off of the stick.
I saw oil pooling under the car and looked underneath to see.
The oil plug was not even there and had apparently fallen free.
.
.
.
I had just had the oil changed so I called the ford place and yelled,
They sent a tow truck to pull us to Bartlesville as my anger jelled.
The gave us a new ford 150 pick up truck to drive over to the lake.
And checked the car to see if damage was caused by their mistake.
.
.
.
They concluded no damage was done by the oil loss incident,
Then gave me 10 free oil changes because of their little accident.
It’s been two years now and the car doesn’t use a drop of oil still.
So I’m glad I didn’t drive on to the lake without checking the oil.
.
.
There’s no way to know if the Ford shop only tightens the oil plug hand tight when you have the oil changed. Sooner or later it will vibrate loose and fall out. Watch that oil light.

I think the words “gut and instinct” are really just common sense,
So when something happens that may make you very tense,
Think about it a minute before you take action that may be wrong,
And you may end up being very happy again before too long.
