The Summers Of 1983 and 1984
.
In June of 83 and 84, my brother Craig’s Family and mine,
Headed on up to South Fork, Colorado, to have a good time.
Craig and Rhonda’s Nicholas was just a baby on the trips,
So he barked a little now and then when he was upset.
.
The Summers Of 1983 and 1984
.
We all stayed at Dad’s cabin out there in the wild,
Craig and Rhonda stayed inside with their new child,
And Pam and I stayed out back in the silver airstream,
Which was very comfortable for our little family team.
.
In 1983, we took the short trip over Wolf Creek Pass,
To Durango to ride the narrow gauge train not so fast,
All the way to Silverton on a board hurting our ass,
While little Nick was happy with a little bit of that gas.
.
In 1984, we spend time hanging on the porch in front,
Where Nick kind of took over as unhappy porch runt,
Looking a little grouchy out there making bad faces,
Like he didn’t want others messing with his fun places.
.
I think Nicks love for porches was from the year before,
When I held him out in front on the porch of a store,
While everyone else was inside shopping for stuff,
Nick and I stayed outside just looking so very tough.
.
Back in 1984, Nick took a picture off the porch to the south,
As he loved that view just catching the corner of the house.
Notice the Yuccas are not blooming so it is surely 1984,
As they bloom every other year, blooming the year before.
.
We took a few more pictures around the cabin that year,
The first is Elizabeth and Chris out beside my van there,
Looking kind of cool standing out there with a pose,
Waiting to head on out and ride the river raft, I suppose.
.
Next is just Elizabeth out in front of the local mountains,
With a happy look on her face with a special big grin.
I think we must have been heading to Creede to shop,
To get some turquoise jewelry at those shop stops.
.
Wait here’s Tamara and could that be Cory there too,
All dressed up and ready to go up to Creede with the crew.
They both love those big ice cream cones on Main Street,
I guess we will load up and head there and get us a treat.
.
One day the girls decided to go to Wagon Wheel Gap,
And ride horses up in the mountains with reins straps.
They all looked like seasoned cowgirls in the saddle,
On those fine looking big horses they so ably straddled.
.
Pam’s sister was up there at her cabin a while too,
And she brought a three wheeler that really flew.
I took a little time and ran the dirt roads hard that year,
But the kids hogged it most of the time I do fear.
.
We also found a little time while there to go fishing,
Here’s one I caught up there in 1983 such a blessing,
If you notice, the yuccas were blooming that year,
Eat your heart out Craig as I recall yours were small, I fear.
.
We all had a lot of fun way back in those fun times,
And we kidded around a lot like I’ve done here in kind.
Hey Nick I hope you know I was just messing around,
So don’t get mad and go away with a big old frown.
