The Ruger Pistol

The Ruger Pistol

.

I had just graduated college in 1966 working a while.
As  Engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company in style,
I was rolling in the dough and shopping for a gift,
For my brother Craig for Christmas to give him a lif

The Ruger Pistol

I shopped all over Borger and had not found a thing,
When I saw ‘Wicks Sporting Goods’ on North Main,
So I headed on inside there to shop a little bit more.
I had a very good feeling as I walked in their door.

I was browsing around when I saw it laying there.
In their glass display case, a perfect gift, I swear.
It’s lines were so sleek that I let out a loud whistle,
It was a Ruger semi automatic 22 long rifle pistol.

The store owner told me that the pistol cost 60 dollars,
The price was about right so I let a big Texas holler.
And told the man to wrap it up with a very nice bow,
I now had a great Christmas present for Craig, my bro.

I think the reason I liked that pistol so much on sight,
Was it looked a lot like a pistol from the WWII fight,
That my Uncle Harold brought home from the war,
Called the German Luger I had seen once before.

My Uncle Harold during WWII.

Craig loved the Ruger pistol when he opened the gift
We went down to Dixon Creek and gave cans a lift,
Plinking at them all lined up in the sand with his gun.
That day out there, we both had a lot of good fun.

I didn’t see the Ruger pistol until several years passed,
Craig was a Design Coordinator traveling the land fast,
And he stored all his guns at our home for a few short years.
Until his traveling slowed down and he came back here.

When he picked up all his guns, he gave me the Ruger,
And I’ve had the pistol here in my home as a roomer.
It hasn’t been fired for many years as I now do reflect,
But it has been here safe in our home to us protect.

That old gun has been registered in my name 60 years,
And I guess I’ll pass it on down to someone so dear.
To keep for another 60 years to use as their own,
To enjoy once again until they too are fully grown.
