I used to think that I could make things happen with my mind,
Later I figured out that my mind really did nothing of the kind.
This poem describes what I think the real power of the mind is,
To help us in many ways, as our own private lives that we live

The Power Of The Mind

I remember when I was just a small child so happy and carefree,
And I saw that toy in Woolworths that really caught my fancy.
I wished in my mind so very hard for that special toy as I paused.
And it showed up under the Christmas tree from old Santa Claus.

.

Now that’s a great toy for a boy.

.

.

.

.

.

I think those little moments started me believing in the minds power,
But as I recall, I may have passed my toy wish on to my mother.
So I can’t be sure whether my mind gets credit on that occasion.
Perhaps, my Mom passed it on to Santa to give me some jubilation?

.

There was that time I was by myself as a boy with my brother,
When he cut his hand so bad that I was frightened like no other,
I wished in my mind that he would be alright and then I prayed.
And I was so relieved when I the doctor said “he will be okay.”

.My little brother Craig.

.

.

I thought at first that I saved him with the power of my mind,
But actually the credit should to the prayer be directly consigned.
If the real truth be known, his life was never in any real danger,
It just seemed so to me as a young boy on a real cliff hanger.

.Don’t worry, he’ll be Okay.

..

When I used to watch the Dallas Cowboys as a young man then.
The game was tied and an opponent field goal would take the win,
I focused so hard with my mind to make them miss the long kick.
Occasionally, the opponents missed as my mind power did the trick.

.

My mind power worked, they blocked the kick.

.

 

.

.

.

But, my mind power only worked one time out of about twenty,
So I guess I really never ever did change the end outcome any.
It did feel so very good back then when I convinced myself I did,
But, I wasn’t too much more than a grown impressionistic kid.

..

I guess the real power of the mind is how you use it in your life,
To keep us from doing things that will make us surely strife.
Think things out to make sure your actions and morality is right,
And you will be successful as you move through life’s long flight.

.

.

Use your mind to think of new useful ideas to make things better,
In your family life, in school, and on the job as a real go getter.
Your mind can help you so much along your own life long trip
If you exercise it with lots of good thinking, not letting it just sit.

When you’re faced with a problem that you can’t seem to resolve,
Use the power of your mind and make that hard problem dissolve.
The answer is in there if you will just think it out for you’re use.
There is a lot of common sense in there when you need it too.

.

.

So the power of the mind is not to work miracles as I first thought,
But rather to help you use wisely what you have been taught.
If you use that power correctly, your life will be a sweet dream,
Living high on the hog with desserts topped with whipped cream.
