The Hen And The Tom Cat

 

 

 

There was a old hen living in the backyard in a coop,
With a bunch of other old cackling hens in her troop.
The girls had a lot of fun each day just pecking around,
Until a big yellow Top Cat started prowling their grounds.

The Hen And The Tom Cat

              (Tall Tale)

That Tom Cat had eaten several of the young hens,
And he had started coming around every night then.
So the hens were in a tizzy not knowing what to do.
But they had to do something or they may be eaten too.

The Tom Cat

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

It was the summertime and the coop was very hot,
So the hens were roosting in tall trees a whole lot.
But that didn’t stop Tom Cat as he could climb good,
So one old hen devised a plan just like she should.

Hey girls, I have a plan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

She would sit up in that tree and watch for Tom Cat,
When he came around, she would get ready for that,
And when he got directly below the limb where she sat,
She would lay an egg and knock him out with a splat.

 

The Hen

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

Soon she saw that Tom Cat heading for their tree,
She concentrated hard and let the egg drop free,
Leading old Tom a little so she would hit his head,
And the egg hit his head like a big piece of hard lead.

I smell a big fat hen.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

The egg was big and hard and knocked Tom out cold,
As the other hens clucked loud now feeling so bold.
The old Tom Cat was laid out on that green grass,
As that one hen had just kicked his big yellow ass.

Was that a good shot or what?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

The family came out and saw that Tom Cat there,
And picked him up and took him to the vet somewhere.
Leaving him there to fix his egg drop concussion,
While they all had a serious family hen discussion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

The family figured out that the Tom Cat ate the hens,
That they had been missing every now and then.
So they put their bird dog out there to watch the girls.
To make them a little more comfortable in their world.

The dog’s name was Scout and he loved his new job,
Watching over the hens as they ate corn off the cob.
And all the hens were then very contended, real winners
Laying lots of eggs for the family’s breakfast and dinner.

Scout is always so alert while out there watching the hens.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

.

The moral of this story if you didn’t figure it on out,
Is when you have a problem, take action even if in doubt,
You will surely then be much better off in the long run,
And along the way, you might even have some big fun.
