The Brown Shack Out Back
.
Pam and I spent part of our honeymoon at the cabin site.
I think this was her first experience with outhouse life.
I thought perhaps our marriage might be a very short one,
But she adapted well with 42 years with me on the run.
Pam and Monet returning from a trip to the Brown Shack Out Back many moons ago.
The Brown Shack Out Back
When my family vacationed at my Dads South Fork cabin,
We knew what area the sit down toilet would be located in.
When we had to drop a load, we headed out to the back
To relieve ourselves in that crusty little old brown shack.
Pam out in front of Dad’s cabin on a cool June morning.
The door had a quarter moon looking like a finger nail
Cut into the top half to let the smell drift out without fail.
On the door was a strong spring to pull the door closed,
While upon that king’s throne we often so proudly posed.
The view out the door of that brown shack out back.
.
Inside the door there were two little screen door hooks,
So we could lock us in and read our paperback books,
Without worrying about someone pulling open the door,
And exposing our private parts right down to the core.
Only one more mile to that brown shack out back.
.
There were cracks in the corner and under the sides too,
To purposely let a nice cool breeze blow right on through.
This kept us very cool inside as the pooh it did fall down,
As we listened for that distinctive plop as it hit the ground.
Ralph let’s step out back to that little brown shack.
.
You could feel that cool breeze on the crack of your ass,
A very refreshing feeling giving the deed some real class.
It made you feel like you were sitting on top of the world,
Being stimulated as the breeze gave the butt hairs a whirl.
I better head to the brown shack out back before hitting the road.
.
There was some small cedar trees behind the back side,
That shaded the shack as that large oval seat we did ride.
The toilet seat and lid were mounted directly over the hole
So it would be quite comfortable even without the bowl.
How much longer are going to be in there mommy, it stinks out here.
.
On the floor to the right side was a big paper sack of lime,
That we scattered right down the hole from time to time
To keep the smell down and to keep the flys off the stuff.
This worked better than you think if you used enough.
Hurry and take that picture Mom. I gotta go the brown shack out back.
.
On the left was a toilet paper roll holder on a round stick,
That the paper rolled off good and was really quite slick.
If someone forgot to bring a new roll of paper out side,
There was a Sears Catalog in a rack to wipe your hide.
I caught a few but I worked up a pooh. Headed out back to the brown shack.
.
Occasionally, when my brother headed out to the shack.
I would get a shovel and hit the shack hard in the back.
He claimed it didn’t scare him too much as he sat there,
But I know he jumped clear off the throne in great fear.
Gosh Kristi, you mean I have to go outside to that brown shack to go to the bathroom here?
.
Unfortunately, he always repaid those evil deeds I did,
And I did my fair share of jumping off of that commode lid.
I think that little shack out back was a lot of the fun there,
And sometimes I miss it some, up in that mountain air.
That’s my brother Craig on the right looking kind of pale after I gave him a bad scare by whacking the side of the outhouse with a shovel while he was perched on the throne inside.
