Silly Billy

Sometimes when I’m in the privacy of my own home or with some of my close friends, I have these things I say in front of the mirror that everyone laughs at me for saying. I never could understand what they were laughing at as I was serious. I’m letting it all hang out in this story so don’t laugh.

Silly Billy

When I was in high school, I had a friend named Richard that had this thing he said every time he looked in the mirror that I picked up and started using also later in my life. So every morning when I got up and many times when I was out with friends, and I looked in the mirror, I said the following:

“I gets up in the morning and I looks in the mirror and I says ‘Self, self don’t you ever die you good looking mouse. Ooozwwww!'”

I’m not so sure a good looking mouse is such a good analogy for my ritual.

I recall one time not too long after I met Carl, my daughters future husband, we were eating at a Chinese Resturant in Bartlesville and Carl came in the mens restroom as I was standing in front of the mirror washing my hands. I said the above “good looking mouse” thing in a loud voice and he just stood there looking at me dumbfounded. He looked at me funny the rest of the evening.

imageMan, I wonder what kind of family I’m marrying into. That old man is about as looney as they come.

When that song “It’s Hard to Be Humble” came out by Mac Davis, I added a few lines from that song to my morning mirror performance and did a little self singing about me. Here’s the lines I sang.

Oh Lord It’s hard To be Humble, when your perfect in every way,
I  can’t wait to look in the mirror, cause I get better looking each day.”

Wow, my mirror routine in the morning kind of made me feel good when I did my thing to start my day so I decided to make up a couple of more little things to add to my morning ritual. There was an old song from the 1930s by Rudy Vallee called “You Ought To Be In Pictures” that I modified the words from and used the tune to fit my little ritual. Here’s my addition to my morning thing to that tune.

“I should have been in pictures, I should have been a star,
There just ain’t nobody, as handsome as I are!

The other ritual addition was to the tune of an old song called “Oh You Beautiful Gal” with the words modified a little to fit me. Here’s the last addition to my ritual.

“Oh you beautiful Bill, you great big beautiful Bill,
How could Pam live without you,
How could she ever doubt you,
Oh you beautiful Bill, you great big beautiful Bill,
You’re as handsome as can be, for every one to see,
Oh Oh Oh you beautiful Bill.”

So many mornings when I’m feeling a little low, I go through the whole batch of .the items listed above and it always cheers me up. Over the years I have shared some of these with my friends and family when we were out partying. They nearly always laughed, but I never did understand why they thought these truths about me were funny??????????

Just look at that face. Don’t every one of the above sayings and tunes fit just perfectly? You be the judge.

.

By the way I have been teaching all my grandsons to carry on the tradition and they are all truly good looking young men so they fit the mold well. Heh heh heh.
