Old Man Emu

Old Man Emu

.

Old man emu was from down under out Australia way,
He was really ugly, speeding about as he did play.
Running the pants right off of those old kangaroos,
As nothing down there was as fast as old man emu.

Old Man Emu

.

Old man emu ran face to face with a big mean Dingo,
While running down the dirt road one day on the go.
He just grinned and shifted into high gear so fast,
Leaving that mean dingo in a big cloud of brown dust.

.

There was a kookaburra sitting there in an old gum tree,
Watching the action from way up above so he could see.
Laughing with his strange kookie bird call so very loud,
As he watched old man emu disappear in the dirt cloud.

.

There was a white cockatoo sitting in the top of the tree,
And he could be heard to say a few words with much glee.
“Laugh kookaburra, laugh kookaburra don’t you see,
Old man emu ran the legs off that dingo so very easily.”

.

Old man emu ran so fast he was soon down to the ocean,
And he ran up on a salt water crocodile laying in the sun,
The crocodile opened his mouth and snapped at him,
But old man emu just ran on by with a big old grin.

.

A koala bear high in the eucalyptus tree saw the action,
Grinning big hollering down to the crocodile right then,
“Your wasting your time trying to catch old man emu,
Because he can still run the pants off of a kangaroo.”

.

An aborigine man was nearby on a hill feeling so blue,
All painted up as he was sitting playing his didgeridoo.
He was playing a fine song about that old man emu,
Running the pants off of that big kangaroo too.

.

An old porky wombat was watching the whole show,
From atop that hill as old man emu out ran that dingo.
And slipped on through the teeth of that huge crocodile,
Kind of snickering softly to himself the whole while.

.

As everyone in the outback knows you can’t catch,
Old man emu as most of them already met their match.
Eating the dust behind that ugly bird with no wings,
Seeing him disappear as the kookaburra laughs and sings.

Has anyone seen my pants?

.

There was an old song I heard on one of my long trips,
To Australia that stirred this memory here as I do sit,
That I loved so much and brought that record back,
Listen on YouTube and I think you too may laugh.

.

Sometimes as you have just seen, I do stray a little,
Getting off on something as I play my own fiddle.
You have to admit, the Internet pictures were good,
As I don’t recall seeing these animals out in our woods.

.

I guess now I have that wild hair pulled out of my butt,
And I’ll get back in those deep tracks called my rut.
To my conventional family and friend story poem style,
And bury the strange stuff down deep for a long while.
