Oklahoma Boy

Oklahoma Boy

Sometimes we dream about laying under a shade tree
Wishing we could all live this life of ease, you see.
Never with too much to do and never getting in a hurry.
So here’s my dream about a country boy with no worries.

Oklahoma Boy

.

Just laying around and scratching at my crotch,
Whittling on a branch, making a sling shot notch.
Got a fuzzy weed hanging out from between my teeth.
Drinking iced tea under a tree in the shade beneath.

.
Just laying around picking at my coveralls in back,
Trying to pull my underwear out of my butt crack.
Swatting at deer flies with my frayed old straw hat,
Wondering if I should roll over or stay where I’m at.

.

Got my old dog with his head laying right in my lap,
Scratching his fleas, look at his right hind leg flap.
Hope those little blood suckers don’t hop on me,
But I guess I’ll not move out from under this shade tree.

.
Look there’s a rat running in the door of the big red barn,
No worries, he won’t eat too much, so not much harm.
I was just wondering if I should get up and do some work,
But, I remembered yesterday I broke my only pitch fork.

.

I’ll just stay here and think about what I need to do worst,
But before I get up, maybe I’ll take a short little nap first.
Anyway, I hate to disturb my dog as he looks so comfy.
So maybe I’ll lay here a bit longer under this shade tree.

.
Ma’s fixing a big old pot of ham and beans for supper,
With some hot corn bread for a juice sopper upper.
Makes my mouth water just thinking about good food,
But ma will soon gas me with bean poots so crude.

.

Guess we better get up and do a little work, Old Blue,
Or Ma’s going to be yelling real loud at me and you,
We still have a full hour left before we go in to eat,
So on to your feet and let’s get out into that heat.

.

Perhaps this little dream of mine about living on a farm,
Is far from the truth and not real life, but no real harm,
As we all dream a little as we live our own lives,
While knowing farming is very hard work and strife.

.

So all you Oklahoma farm boys don’t get too mad,
Instead just dream a little with me and don’t get sad.
It’s all in fun and what we’d all really like to do,
Living the easy life as we cruise right on through.
