Night Life In Borger
.
Reminiscing the teenage years may be the most fun of all.
As those things we did to to have fun, we do often recall.
This poem points out things we did for our enjoyment,
Living in a very small town, with our special deployment.
.
Night Life In Borger
.
When we were 17, we went to Borger town every Saturday night,
And dragged Main Street honking at any car that came in sight.
We then headed for the Post Drive In and circled three times
Just to see who was hanging there and who else we could find.
.
Next, we headed for the Jet Drive In to see the action at that location,
And made the rounds there to check for any teenage commotion.
Then back down Main Street, we dragged all the way to the end,
Then turned around dragged down the whole Main Street again.
.
We went back to the Post Drive In and parked for a long while,
Yelling at our friends there and drinking Cherry Limes in style.
Usually, you would see a car go round with a butt on the glass
Mooning the parked cars and hollering “Kiss my naked ass!”
.
The Post was always the place to see a good hard hitting fist fight.
The in thing to do was to work out your differences right there in sight.
I think some of the guys drank a little Coors beer there on the sly,
But, my friends would not do that (unless we could find an ID to buy.)
.
The cars that were around then were referred to as Muscle Cars,
They had the big horsepower with four in the floor and roll bars.
If you asked around at the Post, there was a Drag Race location,
You could head out there and watch all the drag racing commotion.
.
Friday nights were always our home town sports event night,
Hometown football games were always to support the big fight.
Between rival schools the tension was always very very high,
This kept us entertained, and as we pulled together, we did fly.
.
Sometimes there was a good dance at the Borger NG Armory hall.
They had big name bands playing like “Jimmy Gilmer and The Fireballs,”
Singing very good songs like “Bottle Of Wine, Fruit Of the Vine,”
That we all just loved to dance to or just sit and groove in a line.
.
There was always a good crap game going on in the coat room,
Where you could sometimes pick up some change to the tunes.
It was fun to go there and just hang out with your good friends.
Even if you didn’t have a hot date, you could have fun until the end.
.
Sometimes there was a New Year’s Eve dance at the Aluminum Dome,
The acoustics were terrible in there as the sound did echo some.
But with a double date with some friends, we did have a good time,
Dancing the “Twist” with big margaritas with a little twist of lime.
.
Even though there seemed to be not too much to do in Borger,
We seemed to always enjoy ourselves and keep the order.
As we grew up having fun there in that small little oil town,
While keeping big smiles on our faces and never a frown.
.
If you run into someone from Borger you don’t even know,
That is close to our age, I bet they to the Post Drive In did go,
Going round and round in their cars having a lot of fun,
Watching all the action from their cars where their friends did run.
