Names Of My Cars
.
Sometimes after I had owned some of my cars for a long while,
I would give them some kind of a little name that fit their style.
This poem recalls some of those names that I gave to my cars,
Although now that I recalled them, some seem way out in the stars.

The first car I remember naming was the first new car I bought.
It was a red 1967 Mercury Cyclone GT in which I often sought,
The girls in that little town of Borger, Texas, way out in the boonies,
I named that car “Chick Magnet” which now sounds a bit looney.

Fresh out of the army, I bought a new 1970 Mustang Mach One,
It was blue with a racing stripe and a fastback designed for fun.
Driving 70, it would snap your neck if you stomped it to pass,
It was a “Blue Streak” as the last two barrels kicked in so very fast.

When I got married we needed a family car, so I made a deal,
And traded my Mustang on a 1972 International Travelall, a steal.
It was light blue and an ideal car for a family man so very true
I called her “Blue Goose” as she was big and comfortable too

In Oklahoma City, we got an American Motors Company Eagle,
With four wheel drive for driving in the mountains when we travel.
It was a cool looking little car that performed very well for years.
We called her “American Eagle” as we thought that name was dear.

In Bartlesville, we bought a black 1986 Chevrolet Custom Van.
We were clogging and we drove the wheels off it over the land.
We racked up 250,000 miles before we traded it in on a new van,
We called her the “Hog Wagon” as we were packed in like ham.

We bought a 1998 Cadillac Fleetwood after the girls left home,
My high school wish was to someday own a Cadillac to roam.
This one was purple not blue and we enjoyed all the fancy add ons.
I called her “Rich Dude Ride” with heated seats to keep my butt warm.

We leased a 2003 blue Dodge Ram 1500 4WD pickup truck
With the Lariat package and the Hemi engine for good luck.
We kept it four years and I really liked to drive it all thar time.
I called it my “Cowboy Cadillac”, a real gasoline gussler so fine.

In 2007, we got a Toyota RAV4 Sport for our wheels on the street,
This CRV has been my favorite car of all time, a ride so sweet.
With the repair record we have had for the first 80,000 miles.
Looks like this “Black Beauty” will take me on out of here in style.
