Mystery Disease
.
I think most family doctors never know exactly what our problem is when we get sick. They just make an educated guess what the problem is and prescribe a medicine that might help. Here’s my story of some good guessing.

Mystery Disease
.
When I was living on Third Street in Phillips, Texas, going to Phillips Elementary School, I had a mystery disease that plagued me all year in the second grade. I was at school and my second grade teacher, Mrs. Weston, noticed that my face was red and I looked flushed. She felt my forehead and said I was burning up. She sent me to the nurses office and she immediately called my mother to come and get me reporting that I had a temperature of 103 degrees F. I knew I felt flushed, my skin was dry, my eyes burned, I was burning up, and I just felt like crap.
.
My Mom picked me up and took me to see my family doctor who was Doctor Brooks who delivered me at birth. He checked me over and could not determine what was wrong with me. I had no congestion, cough, diarrhea, of vomiting, but only the fever. He did like most doctors do and prescribed me a ten day supply of an antibiotic called Sulfa Drug assuming I had some kind of bacterial infection. In a couple of days, I was as good as new and went back to school.
Well, I’m not sure what’s wrong with you, but this should help
In about a month and a half, the cycle repeated it’s self and I went through the same ordeal again. During the school year, the Bacterial Infection flared up five times total. The last three times my Mom just called the doctor and got the Sulfa Drug prescription refilled again.
.
The doctor never figured out what was causing my problem or exactly what the problem was, but he did stumble onto a medicine that cured the condition rapidly for which I was very thankful. After that year in the second grade, the mystery disease never showed its ugly face again, so I guess my immune system got better, or the source of the bacteria causing the infection disappeared.
Now let’s see, which one of these bacteria forms could be causing Billy Ray his Mystery Disease?
