Hey, I’ve heard of a “Pioneer Woman” doing pretty good blogging about various home recipes. Here’s one recipe from Hawg Jaw Bill for your perusal.

I have decided to share my recipe for Hawg Jaw Bill’s Home Style Taco Salad. I will give enough details so that even the most inexperienced cook can’t mess it up. All you ladies out there can just pass this on to your husbands to make while you kick back with a cool drink and just wait to enjoy the delicious product. This recipe makes quite a lot of Taco Salad and will serve eight people. But, the good thing about it is you can put the leftovers in the refrigerator and enjoy them later cold. Here’s the ingredients;

1 Head of Lettuce
2 Large Tomatos
2 Ripe Avocados
1 Medium Onion
1 15 Oz Can of Red Kidney Beans
1 Can Medium Size Black Olives (Pitted)
4 1/2 Oz Bottle of Mild Taco Sauce
8 Oz Bottle of 1000 Islands Dressing
2 Pounds of Lean Hamburger Meat
2 Cups of Grated Cheddar Cheese
1 Large Package of Tostitos Crispy Round Chips
Okay guys, if you really want to get in good with the ladies, you can go to the store and buy the ingredients and surprise her. To make it easy for you, I have included pictures of the ingredients you can take them with you to the grocery store.
This is all the fresh vegetables needed for the Taco salad.

Okay, we are now ready to start preparing Hawg Jaw Bill’s Home Style Taco Salad. First you will need a container large enough to hold all the ingredients and still have room to mix the stuff up once it’s all in. I use a large square Tupperware container with a lid so it can be put directly into the refrigerator if there are left overs. Now, get out that Teflon skillet and throw that hamburger meat in the skillet and put the heat on medium. Get a Teflon spoon and keep stirring and chopping that meat while it is browning to make small granules of meat for the salad. When the meat is good and brown, take it off the burner and drain all the grease off the meat and set aside to cool. Hey guys don’t put that grease down the drain, or it will stop it up.
Pick up the head of lettuce and cut the stem core out about 1 inch deep. Slice the lettuce into 1/8 wedges and then slice each wedge into 3/4 inch long slices. Pick up the lettuce and throw it into the container. Next grab the avocados and peel the hard skins. Make a knife slice all around the long end of the oval. Remove the two halves from the seed and slice the avocado halves into 1/2 inch chunks and throw them in. Slice the two tomatoes into 3/4 inch chunks and thrown them in. Peel the onion and slice it into 1/4 inch pieces and throw them in. Open the cans of black olives and kidney beans and drain both well, then throw them in. Put in the cooled browned hamburger meat and stir in. Open the bottle of taco sauce and pour it over the surface, then stir a little more. Put in the grated cheddar cheese, then sir a little more. Pour the bottle of thousand island dressing evenly over the top and stir it in well. Lastly, 20 minutes before you’re ready to eat, pour in the Tostitos chips and stir them in. Serve in fairly large paper bowls so you want have to go back to get more as often.

This should get you into her good graces for a while. Oh, don’t forget to clean up your mess or you’ll lose all the points you’ve gained. This weekend coming up might be a good time to give this a try.
