Friday Night Run
.
Me and the boys used to make a Honky Tonk run Friday,
To check out the action in Borger town where we did play.
We worked in the oil field doing very different type work,
And we all went to school together when we were squirts.

Friday Night Run
.
Back in 1967, there were four single guys living in a pad.
All 4 graduated from Phillips High and were very fine lads.
There was Bill, Rocky, Monroe, and Bob living there too.
It was mostly a place to sleep and bathe for that crew.
.
That’s Rocky on the left, then Monroe, then me. Bob was the picture taker.

We had a big sofa, a stereo system, and a gun rack or two.
There was a refrigerator stocked with our favorite brew.
Our little pad was a Phillips Company house so very old.
With the bare bone necessities and a little green mold.
.
Our little bachelor pad in Phillips, Texas. A real beauty for sure.

We worked hard during the day and played hard at night.
Living in a neighborhood where we grew up feeling right.
On Friday night we went out to the honky tonks very near,
Bar jumping in Borger drinking lots of that cold Coors beer.
.
.
.
.
We would come home Friday evening and have a cool one,
As we took baths and got ready to go out to town to run.
We put on our Levi’s, boots, and some good smelling stuff,
And headed out to drink beer, play pool, and act tough.
.
Our bathroom in the bachelor pad. Notice that fancy light fixture.

.
..
We started on north Main at the Captains Gig for a spell,
Then headed to the Rendezvous Room in Borger Hotel.
We always saw friends there we knew as we drank brew.
We then hit the Club Madrid there on mid Main Street too.
.
The Rendezvous Room was in the basement of the Hotel Borger.
.
.
.
.
.
Out on South Main was a place called the A Go Go Club,
They played Rock and Roll music there in that fast pub.
We stayed chugging beer and chasing the girls for a while,
Then headed to Jeans Bar and Grill which was our style.
.
The Club Madrid was about mid block on this segment of Main Street.
.
.
.
..
A long about midnight, we were all feeling pretty good,
So we headed for the Round the Clock Cafe for food.
After eating our fill of food and talking for an hour or two,
We headed for the bachelor pad as we were all through.
.
.
.
Just thinking about what we did way back then on the run,
Makes me wonder why we ever thought that was so fun.
It seems like we would have spent more time chasing girls,
But I do recall I was not ready yet to give marriage a whirl.
.
.
.
But then, if I would have chased girls right then to win,
I probably would never have met my true soul mate, Pam.
So I guess it was okay if we did stupid things for a while,
As long as I got squared away later and lived life in style.
