Characters I Know
.
In all generations we have characters that we just love to see,
Dad liked Dagwood Bumstead, Alley Oop, and Dick Tracy for three.
This poem examines some characters that I sometimes did see,
And some my daughters and grandkids have seen recalled by me.

Characters I Know
.
When I was young, the characters I knew were friendly and cute,
I saw them at the movies in fun cartoons that were a real hoot.
They were Mickey, Donald, Bugs, and Goofy that I loved so much,
But I didn’t see them too often until I grew older on TV and such.

My daughters Kristi and Tamara had their favorites as they grew,
Holly Hobby and Strawberry Shortcake were two that they knew.
Barbie and My Little Pony were characters they played with too.
They were all real little beauties and the girls loved them so true.

A lot of years have past and there has been a character evolution,
I have to keep up with as the grandchildren do like to use them.
I often buy those strange little guys for their birthday presents,
So I’ll tell you what I know about the characters and their essence.
.
.
.
The first group were very strange characters called Angry Birds.
An app that sling shot them at pigs spread their fame by word,
And it ballooned from there into a world wide craze for our kids,
I tried it a little and I was no good, but It was fun hitting the pigs.

The Super Mario Brothers came around next on a video game,
The grandkids loved the game and played so much it was a shame,
Luke and Zack even got costumes and wore them on Halloween,
And I’ll have to admit, I’ve never seen boys in costumes so keen.

Luke and Zack as the Super Mario Brothers.

Those cute little Lego characters came around next in a box,
They built and put them together from small little building blocks.
They later came out on a video game all the young kids loved.
I tried playing Ben one time and he beat me down from above.

.
Next came a craze for Minecraft characters and the video game.
It’s hard to see why they know all of those blockheads by name.
I guess the game teaches them to build their own fine creations,
Letting their imagination flow giving them those internal sensations.
.

.
.
Last Christmas they all wanted the Disney Infinity game for presents,
We got them all characters that inserted to play that were pleasant.
I was surprised to see one of the characters was my old Donald Duck,
Have we come full circle with my guys coming back with some luck?
.

.
.
.
It’s very clear to see that my grandchildren have more fun today,
With all of the fun new characters available for their daily play.
As I remember, I saw my guys about once per week at a movie,
They are now available as long as Mom and Dad think it’s groovy.
.
.
.
I can’t imagine what characters the future will bring a next generation.
But it will surely be cool and a craze across the whole American nation.
I hope I can still keep track looking right down to earth from my cloud.
I may even be able to take a peek if it’s wireless and I am allowed.
