Cat Ticklers

Cat Ticklers

.

My brother and I looked for fun things to do around the house, and one of the things we came up with was cat tickling. Here’s my story.

Cat Ticklers

.

My brother Craig was seven years younger that me, but he was skilled beyond his years in the fine art of cat tickling. By the time I was freshman in high school, I had taught him all there was to know about this art. My mother had this cat that she named Magnolia that was fluffy and all white. It was a bit peculiar looking as it had one blue eye and one gold eye. My brother Craig and I called this cat “June June” for some reason I can’t recall.

Here comes those two cat ticklers, I’m going to attack them when they walk by.

.

My brother and I found some wild turkey feathers that were about 14 inches long. Some of them came to a point on the end and became the instruments with which we did most of our cat tickling. The long feathers put our hands out of harms way if old June June attacked during one of our tickling sessions.

.

The most vulnerable tickling spots were the ears and the pads on the bottom of the feet. For the ears, we would take the point of the feather and try to slip it by the fine hairs to touch the pink part or the ear. This was impossible to do and the ear would start to twitch as we tickled all those fine hairs in the ear. When the ears laid back, it was time to back off because a major cat attack was eminent. For the pads of the feet, we focused on the fine hairs that stuck out between the pads. A feather touch to the hairs and the cat would shake his paw violently. After a few shakes, the pad would be tucked under so we couldn’t get at the hairs between the pads anymore. We would then focus on the perimeter hairs on the outside of the foot. There weren’t any tells for an eminent foot tickling attack, so we had to be on our toes all the time.

I’m sorry to say that we made this poor cat kind of mean. She was known to attack complete strangers who tried to rub her back. She would often take a swat at Craig or I any time we got in range. My Mom was about the only person who could pet her or whose lap she would sit in. I regret that we agitated that cat so much, but let’s face it, boys will be boys and we sure weren’t hurting the cat.
