I have always been a collector since I was just a boy.
At first it was marbles and those Craker Jack toys.
As I got older, it was postage stamps and arrow heads.
In later life, It was 33 1/3 rpm LP records that I collected.

I collected mostly old country and old rock LPs back then,
I found thousands of good ones as I pursued them.
But my most cherished LPs of the lot that I found,
Were Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys LPs so profound..

Here’s to Bob Wills and his Texas Swing Music we all love.

I found Bob Wills LPs in Tulsa and Oklahoma towns,
And all over Texas as l made my LP collecting rounds,
Including Amarillo, Dallas, Fort Worth , and San Antonio,
Bob’s songs reference these locations, this I know.

“Take Me Back To Tulsa” is a favorite song of mine,
“Good Ole Oklahoma” and “Oklahoma Hills” are so fine.
“The Big Ball’s in Cowtown” just makes you feel good,
As does “Deep In The Heart Of Texas” just like it really should.

There was “Faded Love” that is a real classic we adore.
And “Time Changes Everything”, “Ida Red” and more,
Like “San Antonio Rose” and “Stay A Little Longer” too,
And “Roly Poly”, “Deep Water”, and “The Milk Cow Blues”.

Over the years, Bob Wills had many lead singers,
Most of them to me were very good swing song slingers,
Tommy Duncan was one of my very favorite of all,
Joe Andrews, Jody Nix, and Leon Raush also stood tall.

At one time Merle Haggard sang with Bob for a while.
Sounding so good as a young whipper snapper with style.
Mel Tillis also sang some with Bob a long while ago,
Singing “Cotton Eyed Joe” that I have always liked so.

The Bob Wills LPs were not as valuable as other ones,
But the swing music was great and so much fun.
And from those old LPs, It had a much richer tone,
Sitting in my man cave with a beer that was half gone.

.

.
Many evenings I would pull out a stack of Bob Wills LPs,
And make my own Bob Wills favorites on an 80 minute CD.
It was what I called the best of the best of Bob Wills.
I’ve worn out many sets of the CDs and have some still.

.

Pam and I clogged to some of Bob Wills fast tunes.
And even did “Big Balls..” in a competition show routine.
And danced to “Faded Love” on the hardwood floor,
Then to “Bubbles In My Beer”, we two stepped some more.

As far as I’m concerned, Bob Wills is still the king,
His music will live forever in the recordings he did bring,
As long as I do remain alive on Gods green earth.
He will be at the top of my list, for what it is worth.
