Animal Days

Over the years we have had some strange animal experiences,
I guess it’s only natural, since animals are very rich in science.
And we are all naturally curious about those strange creatures,
So this poem is about those animals that I have tried to feature.

One day I got a baby blue cute little chick for an Easter present.
I was laying on my back out in the clover playing so pleasant,
When that mean blue chick pecked me on the iris of my eye,
My eye watered so bad for a week that everyone thought I did cry.
.
.Dumb little peckerhead.
.

.
.
One day my sis picked up a horned toad in my grandma’s yard.
He latched on to her little finger with a force that was oh so hard,
And she was bawling loud because he just would not let it go.
Until my Dad warmed his tummy a little with his old silver Zippo.
.
i won’t let go until it thunders but the Zippo works too.

..
One day my brother Craig thought he hit the goose on a hunt,
But my 12 gauge BB shot hit the goose with a force so blunt,
And Craig’s number 6 shot just gave him a tiny little biddy shock.
But Craig claims that goose until this day knowing it was my shot.
.
I hit that goose Craig. Oh no, that was my kill.
.

One day my dog Hugo was running around a mesquite barking,
So we ran up the steep hill to see just what was him a sparking.
There was a big rattlesnake coiled under that mesquite bush.
We killed the snake and took Hugo’s swelling head to a vet in a rush.

Hugo, you’re going to have a bad case of fathead.
.

One day I went fishing with a minnow up in the Alibates area
Of Lake Meredith and a Coot dove down by my minnow there.
He came up with my minnow and flew very high up in the air,
And I reeled in my first flying coot fish while people did stare.
.
Wow, Catching that minnow was easy..
.

.
One day while trapping squirrels on the patio in front of my home,
I caught a 40 pound coon in my little trap while he was on the roam.
He was wedged in so tight that it looked like my trap grew hair,
He smelled pretty bad and I still wonder how he even got in there.
.
.You would be surprised how small an opening I can get in.
.

.
One day when I was fishing with my Dad in his Terry bass boat,
We saw a rattlesnake swimming towards us there on the float.
He raised up and came right into the boat with us jumping around,
My Dad killed it with a paddle but he broke two rods as he did pound.
.
Ahoy there mates, I’m coming aboard..
.

.
One night as I slept in my room with an open screened window,
I heard a noise outside that scared me so I wanted to know.
What was outside, so I put my face close and a cat did appear.
It scared the pewadden out of me as I fell right back on my rear.
.
That cat jumped from the ground appearing suddenly with my nose against the screen. I thought those claws were from the devil himself..

One day I went duck hunting with my brother Craig and a new Retriver
We knocked down a duck who was swimming off across the lake.
The Lab was on his tail, as they swam clear out of our sight.
After 10 minutes we saw him swimming back holding that duck tight.

I’m going to get you, I’m going to get you…….

.
One day we were returning from vacation and stopped to pee,
We didn’t see our toy poodle,Monet get out and we left her accidentally,
We offered a reward and a friend of ours called us one fine day,
He had found our precious baby and with her he was on his way.
Our prayers had been answered on that special glorious day.
.
.Don’t you ever leave us again Monet.
