Amazing Sights

I am somewhat different than most people in that things that amaze them usually don’t do too much for me. You’ll see from my story that similarly, things that amaze me probably don’t do much for them.

Amazing sights

 

 

When I was working in Shekou, China, we were able to visit a nearby Chinese Fun Park that was kind of modeled after some of the parks in the USA such as Six Flags. I visited one of the local exhibitions that consisted a troop of young Chinese girls that were able to twist and contort their little bodies into all kinds of shapes and knots. This was the sight on this trip that amazed me even more that all the great China tourist attractions we visited. So this is Amazing Sight one for me.

.Anybody out there want to try getting into this little position. Amazing flexibility.

 

 

When I traveled to Kenia, Alaska, they had a standing Polar Bear in the lobby of the airport there that you could walk up to and stand beside. The huge polar bear in comparison with my 6 foot 4 inch height dwarfed me and made me feel like a tiny little man. This truly amazed me and gave me a greater appreciation for the polar bear in the wild. When I was up on the North Slope of Alaska working on problems on our facilities there, we spotted a Polar Bear heading towards us on a dead run so we jumped in our truck and started putting miles between us. So Amazing Sight two was realizing how insignificant I was compared to a standing polar bear.

When I traveled to Papua New Guinea, I hired a helicopter to fly us around the coast to look for a potential plant sight. As we were flying around the coast we saw a giant whale shark and a giant stingray swimming near the surface of the water so I had the pilot get in close so we could observe these magnificent creatures in their natural environment. We watched them both for about 15 minutes then went on with our business. This I have classified as Amazing Sight three.

When I was in Edinburgh, Scotland, working on problems with the giant oil water separators in the Ekofisk Complex, after work one evening, we went into a real Scotish Pub to have a few beers. We asked the bartender what he recommended and he said try the Deuchars IPA brewed locally in Edinburgh. He brought us a tray of beers and that was by far the best beer I have ever tasted. We stayed and drank way too much of that great beer then walked to our hotel. So my Amazing Sight four is a tray of the wonderful beer I have not been able to find since.

 

Wow, the most amazing  beer in the whole world to this cowboy. Makes me thirsty.

 

 

When I attended a meeting at The Hague regarding a job in the Caspian Sea, we went out to supper that evening and stumbled onto the International Fireworks Festival Scheveningin The Hague right down on the ocean. We stopped and found a seat on a concrete bench and witnessed the most amazing display of fireworks I have ever seen. So my Amazing Sight five is that truly wonder display of fireworks we observed that night.

 

The international fireworks display lasted for hours with truly amazing beauty.
