A Story I Told My Girls
.
My girls just loved my own made-up stories, especially Kristi.
I designed them about a real life event that happened to me.
I jazzed them up to make them more interesting as I went along.
This usually kept them mesmerized with emotions so strong.

A Story I Told My Girls
.
Once upon a time there was a nice little boy named Billy Ray,
He lived in Phillips, Texas, and with his happy family he did stay.
He had a brother, Craig, and a sister, JerrylDine, that loved him so.
And a wonderful Mom and Dad that were just the best, you know.
.
His home was small and not fancy at all, but it was full of love.
He lived a great life with some help from the good Lord above.
He had a wiener dog that he and Craig had taught well to hunt.
We could sic him on anything that moved with only a point.
.
His Mom had named the dog Hugo as he was of German descent.
And he would follow the two boys where ever that they went.
The two boys loved him, so they decided to expand his name,
They called him Hugo Leo Lardo Low because he was so game.
.
.
Hugo Leo Lardo Low (our hero) running on the hunt down in the canyons.
.
.
.
.
Their home was right there in the Panhandle Canadian Breaks,
Just out their back door, was red clay canyons full of snakes.
There were giant stones of limestone within that red clay dirt.
One we called “Elephant Rock” that we climbed with no shirts.
.
.
Yes there is a real Elephant Rock in our early hunting grounds. It’s over 30 feet tall and it is embedded in that red clay. (Very foggy that day)
.
.
.
.
.
One day Billy and Craig decided to go hunting down by Elephant Rock.
Hugo followed them out the door to hunt and that was really no shock.
We walked down in the canyons and walked across a long 30 inch pipe,
With Hugo walking across with us too, what a strange looking sight.
Billy Ray and Craig heading out to hunt with Hugo in this little tale.
.
.
.
.
We had our 22 rifles ready for rabbits as we walked in the mesquites.
Ready for action of a cotton tail flush or a quail’s “Bob White” tweet.
Hugo was just up ahead barking loud and running all around.
So we headed his way, curious to see just what he had just found.
.
.
.
As we approached, we could hear a very loud buzzing sound.
But we could see nothing at all in the deep grass on the ground.
As Craig was stepping forward in the grass, Hugo grabbed his pants,
And spun him around knocking him off of his long stride stance.
.
.
.
We then saw the big rattlesnake coiled in the grass ready to strike,
Right where Craig’s foot would have stepped on the grassy site.
Hugo had saved Craig’s life with his very quick doggie reaction.
Hugo Leo Lardo Low was a hero and we were proud of his tracking.
.
.
And here is the nasty villain of this story ready to sink his fangs into Craig’s leg.
.
.
.
..
We headed on home bragging all the way to the house on Hugo.
Telling our dog hero tale to our Mom who was impressed so.
She cooked Hugo a steak medium rare to reward him for his daring.
While praising him for loving her two boys for which he was caring.
.
.
.
Now this is the end to this bedtime story that I told my two girls.
It kept them entertained and feeling happy as the tale was a pearl.
I didn’t stretch things much as I spun this yarn for those beauties,
Making the girls happy was one of the things that was my life’s duties.
.
.
.
Daddy, Mom put Tamara to bed, would you please tell me one more story. I promise I will go to bed then.
