He’s Still The King
.
I have always loved Western Swing music even back when I was a kid and it was more or less new music. Bob Wills was one of my favorite artists from the early fifties and sixties and still at the present time. Here’s a few words about the King of Western Swing.

Bob Wills

In his early years, Bob played with W. Lee O’Daniel and the Light Crust Doughboys. I have always loved the original style of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. Fiddle music is my favorite and his music is full of some of the best fiddle ever. Tulsa and other parts of Oklahoma were part of his stomping grounds as well as Texas. He played many shows at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa. I have seen several shows at Cain’s by the remaining Texas Playboys including Leon Raush in recent years which were excellent. Over the years, Bob Wills had many lead singers including Merle Haggard, Mel Tillis, Joe Andrews, Tommy Duncan, Leon Raush, Leon Mcauliffe, and many many more. They sang many songs about Texas and Oklahoma in their years of performances. Some of the Oklahoma songs which were all good are as as follows: “Oklahoma Hills”, “Oklahoma Rag”, “Oklahoma Gals”, “Good Ole Oklahoma” and “Take me back to Tulsa.” Over the years I have collected over a hundred Bob Wills 33 1/3 rpm LP albums that are in mostly near mint condition and a couple of hundred Bob Wills 45 rpm records that I haven’t been able to part with yet. When I was in the Rhythm Aces competition clog team, I wrote a show routine to a Bob Wills song to “Big Balls in Cowtown” which we all had a “ball” with. I also have a two foot by three foot framed picture of Bob Wills in my Man Cave. I certainly agree with Waylon Jennings in his hit song that “Bob Wills Is Still The King”. One song that Bob Wills co wrote called “Faded Love” was later done by Patsy Cline. It just kind of floats you off of your chair when you sit and listen to it with your eyes closed. Pam and I have danced to “Faded Love” many many times in our honkytonk years and I never get tired of it. One of the local bands called Cotton Creek had a fiddler in it that had previously played in Bob Wills band and we just loved it when they featured him in a Bob Wills song.
