Mom’s Cats
.
Mom loved cats to sit on her lap while she rested,
They started their motors and they purred as they nested.
This poem discusses a couple of cats she had at our home,
When Craig and I were young boys bugging cats on the roam.

Mom’s Cats
.
My Mom loved cats so we always had one around the house,
Perhaps she kept them to keep the house free from the mouse,
I don’t ever remember seeing a single mouse turd in there,
Most of her cats would sit in your lap and let you stroke their hair.
.
The first cat I remember was a giant tom cat that was fat.
It was a yellow cat that was almost as big as a small Bob Cat.
My brother Craig and I called that big old tom cat Fuzzlips,
Because of the soft fuzzy short hair on the skin by his lips.
.
We teased that cat quite a bit by tickling the hair around his feet.
He got to where he would attack and dig his claws Into our meat,
But he loved to have his fur stroked and would start a loud purr,
So we would calm him by stroking and then tickle his feet fur.
.
One night I was laying in the back bedroom and heard a sound,
I put my face to the screen to see what was out on the ground,
The cat jumped up and stuck it’s claws just in front of my face,
And I fell over backwards while I crapped all over the place.
.
At night Fuzzlips would roam the neighborhood and fight other cats.
Sometimes we would see him chasing a dog like a very big rat.
I think he was the king of our area for a year or maybe two.
Then one morning he came home with a skull hole right through.
.
The hole was about the size of a dime and looked awful bad,
He disappeared for a week and we figured he was just dead.
I found him underneath our house as stiff as a wooden board.
And threw him in the incinerator after a few words to The Lord.
.
She got her another cat that she named Magnolia for sure.
Craig and I called her “June June” and she was white and pure.
We teased that white cat so much by tickling it all over it’s fur,
That it would attack us if we just walked by a little close to her.
.
My mother could hold her in her lap and she would purr so sweet,
But we would get clawed any time we got in range of her feet.
Our Mom said… “Well don’t get so mad, you teased all you could.”
Then we said…”it’s not fair, we tickled her, and she brings the blood.”
.
This cat had one gold eye and one eye of very deep blue,
I think Mom loved this feature much more than we knew.
This was the favorite cat that she ever had for a house pet,
So she was much closer to this one that any other cat yet.
.
My Mom took that cat to her cabin in cool Colorado one year,
She let it out one night to pee and it was never seen again I fear.
She probably made some fine coyote food in the cool night air.
But she called that cat when she went back for years and years.
