This Place Called Home

.

Home is defined as a permanent dwelling place,
Or residence with much family love there to grace.
The love part is important and necessary for a home,
Or the home may turn in to a house and be gone.

My first homes I recall were in Phillips, Texas, so small,
Where I was raised with a loving family growing so tall.
One home was on 3rd Street and the other on Stark Street,
My life with my whole family there was, oh so sweet.

.

Nearly all of my childhood was spent in our homes there,
Where our parents taught me to love life so dear.
Doing all the fun things as we learned and did grow,
While receiving an education in schools I loved so.

Phillips, Texas, used to be the the town I called home,
But the houses were moved out and the streets are gone,
And they fenced it all inside a Refinery chain link fence,
Thus, I haven’t called that place my old “home town” since.

After I got married, our home was in Fritch, Texas, then,
And we started a new family with love there once again,
Our new family grew together with such a good life together,
For 5 years that were so special as we all loved one another.

We moved into a house in Oklahoma City for a while,
Then Houston and Odessa for a short time with a smile,
But we weren’t there long enough to call them our home,
During those fast times when we so rapidly did roam.

We moved to a home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1983,
Thinking then that it was going to be so very temporary,
But it became our true home where we raised our girls,
With all our love as we lived our lives in this big world.

.

We have lived in our Bartlesville home for 34 years,
With good times filled with lots of joy and a few tears.
Our girls graduated college, married, and have a new home,
Raising their own children out there on their own.

.

Since my old home town is no longer there anymore,
I now call Bartlesville my “home town”, I do adore.
As I live out the senior years of my life here with Pam.
In our house we call our home as an old woman and man.

.

We hope we can live in our home the rest of our days,
As we do love this place where so long we have stayed.
Where our daughters families come to visit us sometimes,
With our four grandchildren who are all so very fine.

.

There’s been lots of love flowing here in our home,
With all the time we spent here as our family has grown.
The walls of this old house have gotten so very old,
But the love we shared here shall never grow cold.
