The Lost Dog

Sometimes we become so attached to our pets that they are like one of the family members. If we lose them it is truly a heart felt loss. We lost our miniature poodle on a family trip and we were devastated with the loss. Here’s our dog gone story.

The Lost Dog

When I married Pam, she had a small miniature poodle named Monet (mo- nay) which she had raised for several years. We raised and loved her for 5 more years while we lived in Fritch, Texas. In early 1978 we moved to Oklahoma City with our two daughters, Kristi and Tamara, and our poodle Monet.

After we had lived in Oklahoma about 6 months, we took a trip to Borger to visit our relatives. We had a good visit and headed home. When we had driven about 80 miles, one of the girls had to pee, so we stopped in the middle of nowhere. She did the deed, then went on. When we got home to Oklahoma City, we looked for Monet and she was no where to be found. Then it dawned on us that she must have gotten out when we stopped along side of the road when we made the pee stop. We were just devastated. We called some friends of ours in Pampa, Texas, not too far from where we stopped and asked them to put an ad in the local paper offering a $100 reward for Monets’ return giving the location where we lost her.

Two days later, we got a call from Corky and he said some one had called him and they thought they had our dog. Corky had seen her before so he went and looked and sure enough someone who lived in Pampa had picked her up along the road. He offered to pay the reward and I could reimburse him later when they brought the dog to us. That weekend we had our precious little poodle back that I honestly didn’t think we would ever see again. She got treated like a Queen for a couple of weeks and eventually we got back to our normal lives.

.
After three years in Oklahoma City, Monet moved to Houston, Texas, with us. After 1 1/2 years there we moved to Odessa, Texas, and she moved with us. We stayed in Odessa 1 1/2 years and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with Monet. We were very careful on pit stops on all our travels not to abandon her again. After three years in Bartlesville, she died of old age and we put her to rest in the tulip patch in our back yard.
