Wishing On A Star

Wishing On A Star

.

“Star light, star bright, the first star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight.”
Is an old verse we have all spoken seeing that first star.
This poem provides my thoughts about star wishing afar.

Wishing On A Star

.

I used to love to wish upon a star up in the sky in the dark night.
My favorite star of them all was Polaris or the North Star so bright.
It’s the end star of the Little Dipper handle up there in the sky.
Used by sea faring navigators in their travels so well applied.

It’s easy to find in the night sky using the Big Dipper as a guide.
Just draw a line through two Big Dipper stars on the back side,
And it will point you to the North Star twinkling up there so bright,
When you see that wishing star, you may wish with all your might.

North Star up there in the universe shining so brightly tonight,
Please hear my wish as I look up at your twinkling night light,
And give me faith that I may really receive some help from you.
To fulfill my wish so sometime in the future, it may come true.

I think that everyone has their own special star they wish upon,
As my generation was raised believing in stars we could wish on.
We all saw the movie “Pinocchio” with the wooden nose that grows,
Jiminy Cricket sang “When You Wish Upon A Star” with words below.

When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are.

When You Wish Upon A Star”
.

“When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

.
.
.

If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

.
.
.

Fate is kind
She brings to those to love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

.
.
.

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true”

A song by Bryan White suggests that if our dreams don’t come true,
Perhaps we are wishing on “Someone Else’s Star” making us blue.
If so, try picking another one of your favorite stars in the night sky,
And giving your own special dream wish just one more last try.

In my opinion “Someone Else’s Star” was the best song Bryan ever did.

Someone Else’s Star”
.
.

“Alone again tonight
Without someone to love
The stars are shining bright
So one more wish goes up.

.

.
.
.

Oh, I wish I may
And I wish with all my might
For the love I’m dreaming of
And missing in my life

.

.
.
.

You’d think that I could find
A true love of my own
It happens all the time
To people that I know

.

.
.

.

Their wishes all come true
So I’ve got to believe
There’s still someone out there who
Is meant for only me

.

.
.
.

I guess I must be wishing on
Someone else’s star
It seems like someone else keeps getting
What I’m wishing for

.

.
.
.

Why can’t I be as lucky
As those other people are
I guess I must be wishing
On someone else’s star

.

.
.
.

I sit here in the dark
And stare up at the sky
But I can’t give my heart
One good reason why

.

.
.

.

Everywhere I look
It’s lovers that I see
It seems like everyone’s in love
With everyone but me

.

.
.
.

I guess I must be wishing on
Someone else’s star
It seems like someone else keeps getting
What I’m wishing for

.

.
.
.

Why can’t I be as lucky
As those other people ar
Oh, I guess I must be wishing
On someone else’s star

.

.
.
.

Why can’t I be as lucky
As those other people are
Oh, I guess I must be wishing
On someone else’s star.”

.

.

.

I have made many wishes on my star that seemed to come true.
And others that never seemed to be fulfilled at all bidding me adieu.
Perhaps, our wishing star must be changed from time to time,
As I’ve learned while writing this poem from other people’s rhymes.

When I was in Alaska where the night sky was just so very clear,
I went blind in my right eye twice while I was there in that cool air,
I wished on my star to help me to recover my sight for good,
I had my Carotid Artery cleaned out and I could see as I should.

Perhaps wishing on a star is another way for all of us to pray,
I know the good Lord knows exactly what our wishes do say,
And perhaps He chooses to fulfill the dreams that we deserve,
And some of our selfish wishes not fulfilled do not Him serve.
