Train Songs

Listen to the Jingle, the rumble, and the roar,
As she glides across the woodlands by the hills and by the shore.”
I heard this song on the Grand Ole Opry so many times,
Sung by Roy Acuff who also wrote this fine train tune.

When she passes that Nashville tower, you can hear that whistle whine,”

Who also recorded it making it part of his singing act.

When the whistle broke into a scream,”

Good morning America,how are you?
Say, don’t you known me? I’m your native son.”
Are words from a Willie Nelson song that I do love to hear,
It’s about a train ride through Mid America that is so near.

Always be a good boy, don’t ever play with guns”

” I walked up to a brakeman just to give him a line of talk
He said, If you got money, boy, I’ll see that you don’t walk”
Jimmie Rogers wrote and sang this song before my time,
He was known as The Blue Yodeler with his lonely whine.

“Looky yonder coming, coming down the railroad track,
And see the black smoke rolling, rolling from that old smoke stack.”
Merle Haggard sang this Jimmie Roger tune on an album.
I thought that Merle would make a good railroad bum.
