Sunshine On My Shoulders

Sunshine On My Shoulders

.

When I was a young boy, I ran all over God’s creation,
Without a shirt there on my back in the Sun’s radiation,
Turning a golden brown with a fine tan for all to see,
Not knowing that it would later cause problems for me.

I started running in the sun at about the age of one,
And I guess I stayed out in the sun until I was well done.
I don’t remember to much that happened back then,
But I seemed pretty happy standing around so thin.

While Dad was in the Navy we traveled the states,
Sometimes living way out in the country so great,
I apparently went shirtless a lot out there on the farm,
As JerrylDine and I wrestled a dog with all of our charm.

At age two, I got out of my skivvies and got a new suit,
To swim in the lake topless in the sun like a big brute.
I certainly do have to admit, I looked pretty darn sharp,
Standing there in ankle deep water watching for carp.

.

At age three at Philview Camp I was shirtless all the time,
Out there playing with my dog Freckles looking so fine.
I was brown as a berry as I roamed out on that prairie.
But it’s hard to tell in black and white, as tan won’t carry.

.

In Sulphur Springs, I was shirtless and in bare feet.
Most of the time as I ran around the town streets,
Headed down to Butler Creek with JerrylDine to fish for fun,
We caught quite a few fish getting tan in that old sun.

.

I didn’t have too many muscles in my tan little body,
As I held that big old string of fish looking kind of shoddy,
But you can tell by that look on my little boy face,
I was happy as can be standing there as I ran my race.

.

I ran with the Eldred boys when we visited Sulphur Springs,
Without any shirts all over the town doing lots of things,
Rocky Eldred was older than me, and Bill Eldred was younger,
What fun we had getting tan while seeing all the wonders.

When I was single living with the boys on the bachelor run,
We swam a lot at our apartment pool out in the hot sun,
While chasing the girls trying hard not to really catch them,
Back then, I had nice clean and clear chest and back skin.

After I married Pam, I often worked out in the yard,
With no shirt on my body, working in the sun so hard,
I had no idea what that old sun was really doing to me,
Although the tan still looked good for everyone to see.

.

When I turned 50, these big brown looking dry scabs,
Showed up on my back and chest looking so drab,
Caused by all that time I had spend out in the hot sun,
I don’t remove my shirt now, as I was cooked well done.

At age 48 during my war with the squirrlels, those brown scabby things had not yet appeared.

.

So here is a bit of advice to all you fine young men out there,
Keep your shirt on outside when you are in the sun anywhere,
For long periods of time as you are making your life’s run,
Or you may end up with very ugly things on you from the sun.

.

As I have gotten older those things have gotten bigger,
Between them, my scars, and flabby tits, I look like old trigger,
So Pam only knows what’s there under my sports shirt,
But she really doesn’t care as we are both too old to flirt.
