Summer Vacation 2000

Summer Vacation 2000

.
In the summer of 2000, I was still working as an engineer.
We planned a summer vacation to South Fork that year.
My Mom and Dad had health problems and couldn’t go,
So we leased a large cabin in town that we did love so.

Summer Vacation 2000

Pam’s Mom wanted to go with us, but her doctor said no,
As she did just have heart problems not too long ago.
Kristi and Carl got vacations from their jobs that year,
Tamara could get vacation and sure wanted to be there.

.

.

.

.

Tamara said she would come if a friend she could bring,
So we decided to pick them up in Amarillo for our fling.
I leased a brand new Ford Expedition for our long journey,
To South Fork and we headed out on our trip so happily.

We picked up Kristi and Carl in Tulsa packed raring to go,
And hit the road happy people just rolling with the flow.
We picked Tamara’s crew up in Amarillo from their flight.
And drove up to the South Fork cabin arriving that night.

Buffalo Bob and Brenda were already there at their cabin,
With Otho and Darlene as cabin guests there with them.
So both Pam’s brothers were there to have fun with us too,
At our family reunion that year in South Fork with the crew.

My Uncle Harold and Mike and Kristi’s family had come in,
As well as Rick and Charlene’s family at their own cabins.
So it was home reunion there in South Fork once more,
As we all visited catching up on the latest news for sure.

Raft renters resided here.

Tamara talked me into leasing a 4 wheel drive jeep then,
For a 4 wheel trip up the mountain for her and her friend.
I sweated a lot waiting there for them both to get back,
With themselves and that leased jeep all still in tact.

The young people of our crew went on a long river raft run,
Riding the raft down the mighty Rio Grande River for fun.
I got out my fly rod and then hit the river drifting a fly dry,
Catching those big brown trout in that ripple with that fly.

We had big cook outs at Bob’s cabin with all the family,
Then played card games until the wee hours you see,
Just having a ball there with all the family and friends,
While listening to honkytonk music having fun back then.

On our sixth day, we got word Pam’s mother was worse,
And had been hospitalized with heart problems, a curse.
We packed up and headed back to Amarillo that day,
And when we got to the hospital, she was in a bad way.

..

MaMo passed away with us there just two short days later,
With heart failure and complications as we lost a fine lady.
We were all so sad as we stayed there and laid her to rest,
Taking her place up in heaven with some of the very best.
