I’ve already told you about my run in with a mad goose (see “Sulphur Springs Shorts” blog). Here’s a couple of stories about my run ins with a couple of other animals.

Stories My Mom Told Me

.

My Mom told me many times about a time I was very young and we were someplace that had a goat running free in the area I was playing. I had been around the goat all morning and we got along pretty good. I was running and playing in the grass with a toy I was playing with. I dropped the toy and bent over to pick it up. I guess my butt looked like a target to the goat because the goat lowered his head and headed full speed for me and sent me sprawling in the grass. I did three rolls in the grass and ended up looking up at the sky. My Mom about had the big one and came running over to see if I was hurt. She said I smiled at her as if I were saying ” Wow, that was fun, let’s do it again.” But she did lock the goat up for the rest of the day.

I’m not sure whether or not this is the goat that sent me sprawling, but I suspect it was.

I think when  a person bends over and shows their butt to a goat, it triggers some kind of attack mode and they automatically  butt the butt.

My Mom also told me a story of a time when we were in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas. She said I was very young and we were out on a picnic at a private lake. They had a tame deer on the premises that would let you walk up to him and scratch his ears. I had been playing around the place all afternoon, and I had found a tree that was easy to climb. So up I went and after I had been playing up in the tree a while, the tame deer had wandered under the tree and was directly below me when I lost my balance and fell out of the tree. As fate would have it, I landed directly on the deers back. It scared the deer so bad that he reared up and kicked out his back legs out. This action had flipped me back up into the air and Mom said I did two perfect flips and landed on my butt on the ground. Although it didn’t hurt me, it scared me so bad that I was really bawling loud. They checked me over and saw I was alright and they all had a good laugh. However, Mom said I never did see the humor in the incident.

i was in that tree on that big limb when the deer wandered under me. This is about a second before the fall takes place.
