Some Beach

Some Beach

.

Somethings we did so long ago still linger fresh in my memory.
Perhaps it’s because we always did them as a happy family.
This poem recalls a day trip that we used to take on the weekend,
That we enjoyed so much on Galveston Beach way back then.

Some Beach

Occasionally when we lived in Houston, we headed south to the beach,
Galveston Beach area was only about two hours away in our reach.
Early on a Saturday morning, we would head out about eight.
And hit the beach a running by ten feeling just so very great.

.

The girls loved swimming in the salty ocean while feeling for crabs,
They loved those little hermits carrying those pretty shells on their back.
If they found a starfish, they added it to their collections in a sack.
I think we still have some of the shells they collected from way back.

Well Mr Hermit Crab, I’ll take your shell house and you can find another.

.

We would walk as a family along just looking to see what was there,
There was always a lot of cool looking people lurking everywhere.
We liked wading in the cool water about six inches deep on our feet,
As it felt so good as the smooth sand was just so soft and sweet.

.

There were lots of those body builder guys walking around the sand,
That strutted around like big old roosters hunting hens on the land.
Pam loved to watch those guys that were so proud of their bodies,
Even if some of them looked like they drank steroids in their toddy.

Hey Bill, look at that guy. Whooooeeee.

I just loved to get behind one of those girls in a tiny little bikini,
I would follow close wondering how it stayed on being so teeny,
Watching them jiggle as they bounced along there in Galvaston,
From the rear, the heart shaped cheeks looked like hot buttered buns.

Sooooooeeeeee, Pam look at the cheeks on that one.

We brought a blanket and umbrella and laid around a while.
Listening to the sounds and observing the sights there in style.
It was sort of like we had entered another world temporarily
That made it so fun because to us, it was an unknown rarity.

The girls loved eating hot dogs out there on that blanket on the sand,
They ran and played in the water as we listened to the beach band.
There was so much going on there that we didn’t want to miss a thing,
We always wondered what fun the rest of the day might bring.

Along about four in the afternoon, we headed for the fun park there,
There was rides and water slides for the kids to enjoy their share.
They especially liked the sliding down the high slide at their age,
I worried some, but they had the time of their life, such a great day.

.

After the fun park, we headed for our favorite restaurant for some fish,
By now I looked like a boiled lobster, so I just ordered that dish.
We had worked up a good appetite having our fun day in the sun,
After we ate, we loaded up and started back on our home run.

.

After five minutes on the road, the kids fell into a very deep sleep,
And all the way home, from them we didn’t hear one little peep.
What fun we had on our day trips to the beach while living down south.
I remember them well when our girls were still in their early youth.
