When some friends of theirs moved overseas far away,
My daughter Kristi’s family adopted their dog that day.
The dog was long, tall, shaggy, and kind of ugly to see,
But it wasn’t long before he was a member of the family

Old Roscoe and Scout dog got along from the first,
The competition for food scraps was maybe the worst,
But they didn’t fight and growl at all living there together,
I was surprised that they got along so well with one another.

Old Roscoe was a loving dog and snuggled up to Carl,
In his lap looking him in the eye with eyebrows that curl,
Becoming good buddies as CarlĀ
talked dog talk to Roscoe,
Growing closer to each other as Father Time did flow.

Roscoe had Kristi’s heart in his paws right away.
As he became her little boy snuggling with her to stay.
There in that big easy chair like a big shaggy baby.
He had won her sweet love, and I don’t mean maybe.

Old Roscoe had a dog instinct to kill their pet chickens,
And for a week or so, their chickens took a lickin’.
But Roscoe got the message those chickens were pets,
And they now live in harmony as he is no longer a threat.

The family took Roscoe and Scout on a camping trip.
In the back between Sarah and Ben, old Roscoe did sit,
Wearing his cute pink traveling shades looking so hip.
It looks like Sarah is snickering at Roscoe just a bit.

Roscoe appears to be having a fine time that night,
Sitting around the camp fire thinking about old dog fights,
He is waiting for the fire to burn to coals so red hot,
So weenies will be roasted hoping he would get a lot.

They got back home and both dogs were just worn out.
It looks like Scout got the floor and Roscoe the couch.
Old Roscoe is letting all his stuff hang out and about,
Looking pretty comfortable spread out, there is no doubt.

.

Looks like Kristi was kind of worn out from the trip too,
Roscoe moved in to take a nap before she got through,
Kind of hugging his Mom with a paw around her so sweet,
Snuggling together there in that soft reclining seat.

That old shaggy dog loves to lay in the middle of the floor,
On his back with his stuff up in the air making us roar,
With laughter as he cools things off laying right there,
With the breeze from the AC blowing his gray shaggy hair.

I too have grown attached that dog they call Roscoe.
When we
visit our daughters family as we are on the go,
I thought at first we wouldn’t get along together too well,
But Roscoe does kind of grow on you, after a short spell.
