Old Santa Claus

Old Santa Claus

.

Pam and I both came from families with strong traditions,
So when our two girls came to us as our family additions,
Santa Claus came by very early on Christmas Day.
Bringing Pam and I more joy than the girls with their toys

.
Our first Christmas with both girls with us was 1977,
That year to us was the start of an event from heaven.
The girls had helped me put a tree up that year in our den,
It was special to me getting ready for Christmas with them.

Early on Christmas morning, Santa left toys by the tree.
Tamara was 7 months old and Kristi was almost three.
Kristi and Tamara got up first and met by the fireplace.
Kristi held Tamara back with a pretty smile on her face.

They headed for the presents Santa left under the tree.
They were both screaming just as happy as can be.
I wondered how Santa had carried those toys in a sack,
It’s a wonder that Santa didn’t injure his old back.

The girls dug into those presents and goodies there,
Kind of scattering their toys and stuff around everywhere.
They were having a ball with so much joy in their hearts,
It gave me such a great feeling inside from the start.

After they had played a while with the gifts they received,
We looked out in the back yard and we couldn’t believe,
Old Santa had put up a swing set out there for them.
We went out in the cold before dawn to swing a little then.

Old Santa left the presents under a real tree in 1978.
The girls were older and they thought it was great.
There was an electric car there and lots of big dolls.
Old Milky The Cow was also there standing so tall.

.

.

There was a fast hot wheels and a Good Puppy too,
Kristi got a new doll high chair to feed her as she grew.
Their stockings were full of all kinds of good stuff,
And they got a doll bed all filled with that soft fluff.

.

Kristi grabbed a doll and fixed her black hair real nice,
As Tamara played with Good Puppy with a smile on her face.
I always loved these times that our girls were so happy,
Making me so very proud to be there as their pappy.

.

The girls rode their new electric car all over the kitchen
They looked so cute as they rode together therein.
I believe Tamara may have been a little sad then,
As she wanted her turn to drive the car once again.

.

.

But Tamara soon became a happy girl once more.
Riding on her new white horse there on the den floor.
These times in our family life we shall never forget.
Etched deep in our memories hanging back there yet.

Kristi got a set of books with cassette tapes to play,
I was enjoying playing the tapes as she read, I say.
What a Christmas morning we all had together there,
At our Arroyo Verde home just east of Fritch somewhere.

.

We had many more visits from Santa Claus over the years,
Following our Christmas Eve gift exchange so dear,
And then Christmas dinner with all our family at mid day,
All to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in our own way.
