My Coworker

My Coworker

During my career as an engineer there was one man,
That worked for me and with me off and on over the land.
Doug was an excellent engineer that I rated very high.
That learned so very fast as he reached for the sky.

My Coworker

I first met Doug in Houston, Texas, wild and free.
He was a junior engineer assigned to work for me.
I assigned him Luling Plant and sour Gas System then.
Doug learned the plant and system as he dug right in.

Natural gas plant of the type we worked.

.

He found a field gas compressor that was really humping,
But it wasn’t compressing much gas not hardly pumping.
I had him buy test pressure gauges and check pressure drops,
And he found 50 psi drop across the air fin tubes so hot.

The plugged tube ends were on the right side vertical air fins.

.

He had those tubes cleaned and it ran just like a top,
Pumping large volumes of gas to the plant from that spot.
Making operations people happy with Doug standing tall.
We bought more test equipment testing plants and all.

.

Many problems were found and corrected as we did test,
Giving our group a good reputation as the very best.
After a 1 1/2 years I was promoted and moved on along,
Leaving Doug there building his reputation so strong.

.

About six years later as I worked in Bartlesville town,
As Principal Process Engineer where joy I had found,
I was assigned a project to expand Kenai Plant capacity.
Doug was Kenai Plant Engineer who did work with me.

We both tested the plant to determine present capacity,
And developed project paperwork for managers to see.
The project was presented which was quickly approved.
The large capacity increase made managers groove.

ConocoPhillips proprietary licensed process we used in our designs

.

Doug and I worked the project through to the end,
Then tested the capacity of Kenai Plant once again.
We found more than the proposed capacity LNG increase,
Helping raise both of our reputations up with ease.

.

A few years later I was assigned to the Darwin LNG project,
Doug was Operations Rep, their position to protect.
We worked on this project off and on for 5 long years.
Until I retired from work without shedding any tears.

.

After I retired, Bechtel installed that 800 million dollar plant,
At Darwin, Australia, over in that down under land.
I heard they made Doug the Plant Operations Manager there,

In charge of that monster plant operation, I swear.

My coworker Doug for many years

.

I guess we worked well together through the years,
I hear that LNG plant is making lots of money so clear.
I knew at our first meeting that he would do very well.
And together over the long years we both gave it hell.
