Linda’s Big Six O

Linda’s Big Six O

.

When Linda turned 60, Gene threw her a big birthday party,
They asked me to be the Dee Jay and I was not to be tardy.
Gene leased a big room at the Tulsa Elks Lodge to celebrate,
There would be a keg of beer and two separate birthday cakes.

One cake was a 45 rpm record titled “Happy Birthday Linda”,
On the label “Sweet 60”, now doesn’t that really just send ya’.
The main cake was a jukebox hand decorated so very great,
It had to be very large to hold 60 candles and all that weight.

One sweet disc.

Play Happy Birthday Linda for our birthday girl.

I set up my equipment up on that stage they had in that room,
And I took off my hat as I let Misques opening theme boom.
With “Howdy Neighbor Howdy” booming there so very loud,
There was a lot of people singing along in that big ole crowd.

Misque’s Alma Mater is playing for our Linda today.

We got the birthday girl up and sang “happy birthday” very loud,
There were her family, OSU friends, and Misques in the crowd,
As Linda hugged Gene for setting up the 6 O party just for her,
I believe she gave him a big old kiss making his little heart stir.

Thank you so much Gene. This party is great.

Linda got up and looked at the cakes appearing to be surprised,
As she seemed happy with arms open and a little tear in her eye.
We had the fire department standing by until the candle flames,
Were blown out so she could open presents continuing her game.

Wow this is great just feel all that heat.

.

Linda sat up on the stage opening all her presents so happily,
With her grandkids helping her as I had the best seat to see,
All of the good things she got and her reactions until she finished,
While playing good country music softly looking so distinguished.

Thank you so much Conan.

We gave Linda a big birthday hug and she said “okay let’s party”,
But we had started on that keg and she was already a bit tardy.
I recall I had already had about three beers playing my songs,
And some of the crowd was already getting rowdy right along.

Happy birthday Mom on your big 6 O.

Linda wanted to see our girls do “Tennessee Banjo Man” on stage,
So they got on the stage and I got that record out then to play.
They both loved Linda so they really clogged it up so very good,
Doing those advanced clog steps like we all wish that we could.

This one is for our Linda on her birthday.

The boys were getting rowdy drinking on that big keg of beer,
So someone yelled, hey guys let’s do the Fred Shuffle right here.
So the boys got out on the dance floor and did Fred Shuffled there,
Kind of feeling a bit rowdy from all of that good cold keg beer.

“Keep Your Hands To Yourself” by the Georgia Satellites was the original Fred Shuffle dance.

.

Linda said it was time to start the two stepping dance about then,
So I started doing what I loved to do playing country music again,
I started with “Waltz Across Texas” by Ernest Tubb so very fine,
And played some good music including some fast dances in a line.

How did he know we loved “Hell Bound And Whiskey Bent” by Hank Williams Jr.

.

We clogged off and on as the party progressed on to the end,
As we helped our Linda bring her big 6 O birthday right on in.
What fun we had helping her to celebrate at the Elks that night,
She had a wonderful time as we think we brought it in right.

PS: The Elks had a party going on in the next room that night playing some kind of classical music and the like. Their head Elk came over and asked me if he could hire me for the Elks to Dee Jay their function the next month as he could see how much fun we had. I told him that I just did it for friends.
