Learning To Be Daddy

Learning To Be Daddy

.

When our Kristi was born, I suddenly became a dad,
I had no idea what was coming, but I was so very glad,
To have a beautiful new born little girl of our very own.
This daddy life was new to me as we went on home.

When I first held our Kristi in my arms when we took her home,
I was as proud as can be and she would never ever be alone,
She was so tiny and fragile laying there in my arms so warm.
I knew then it was my job in the future to keep her from all harm.

Kristi grew quickly as we fed her good at home in those days,
And we decided to get a family picture made without delay.
So Pam dressed Kristi in that cute little red dress with lace,
And we got spruced up and headed to the pro picture place.

Soon I found out that being a daddy was sometimes quite hard,
When it was my turn to get up in the night when I was so tired.
I changed her wet diaper and rocked her there in my chair,
Sometimes feeding her a bottle to get her to sleep sitting there.

.

Soon those tough nights were over and Kristi got very mobile,
And she started saying fine words like “Da Da” to her daddy Bill.
I loved to sit out on the porch swinging with her back and forth,
And I could tell right away that our Kristi loved being outdoors.

When I went outside to pull weeds in the front yard at times,
Kristi was out there with me helping with her little hands so fine.
It looks like in the picture below, I threw away something good,
Kristi is reaching in to get that dandelion flower like she should.

We took Kristi to Grandma and Granddads cabin in early July,
She loved being out there in the great outdoors on the fly.
Dad had an old wagon he used to haul water to the cabin,
I used to pull Kristi around on those dirt roads sitting therein.

Sometimes when Pam and I went out to twostep dance at night,
We would drop Kristi off at MaMo’s house feeling so very right,
As Kristi dearly loved her MaMo and PoPo loving her time there,
Until we dropped back by to pick her up from their loving care.

.

I recall one time I had to take Kristi to her first dance class recital,
I don’t remember why, but Pam couldn’t go that time with our gal.
So I put on a sport coat with the sleeves a little short on that day,
And Kristi and I had a great time, as she danced great all the way.

Kristi and I grew a great garden together out in the back yard,
We started from scratch and both of us worked so very hard,
After planting, the best part was then watching things grow,
We had fresh vegetables and canned lots of things we loved so.

When I went fishing and hunting in the great outdoors some,
Kristi would greet me to see game I brought home on the run.
She became a fine sports woman herself hunting and fishing,
At a very young age which to me was such a great blessing.

When Pam and I went to the 1976 Bicentennial celebration
We dressed Kristi up so cute in an original outfit creation.
As we square danced out at Lake Meredith on the 4th of July,
I was so proud of her out there standing by my side on the fly.

.

Kristi loved for me to tell her stories that I made up in my head,
And likewise I loved to tell Kristi the stories having fun as I did.
She could never seem to get enough always asking for more,
And many times I fell asleep after telling those stories galore.

Tamara came along about the time Kristi turned three years old,
I had lots of experience being a dad now feeling so very bold,
I’m not sure if I did a better job as they were different as can be.
But I did have the basics down and things seemed okay to me.

Welcome to our family Tamara.
