Holiday Memories

Holiday Memories

Mom was one of those traditional holiday ladies,
Who cherished family traditions with all of her babies.
She taught us well as those traditions became ours too,
So each year we all continue those traditions on through.

Holiday Memories

My Mom started decorating for Thanksgiving in October,
To get us all in a Thanksgiving mood with one another.
She had paper decorations she pulled out of our attic,
And then expertly placed them like a holiday addict.

On top that’s my grandmother Aurora Bell, my Mom, then my aunt BuelDine. On bottom that’s cousin Scott, sister JerrylDine, me, cousin Mike, and cousin Ricky.

Many times we ate Thanksgiving dinner with BuelDine,
Her sister and all her family until we got to be teens.
We had Turkey and dressing and all the other things too,
Aunt BuelDine always made a frozen salad I loved so.

We picked up their mother, Aurora Bell, to eat with us all,
It was a family gathering where we always had a ball,
I loved those times playing with all my special cousins,
And sitting and just talking to Aurora Bell way back then..

My Mom would change the decorations the next day,
To bring in the Christmas spirit which was on the way.
We went with her to pick out a real Christmas tree,
I loved the piney smell of our tree feeling so care free.

We spent a lot of time making ornaments for our tree,
And stringing popcorn on a thread to hang wild and free.
We put some light strings on last to make it look fine
Then topped it off with an angel to make it really shine,

Each family member had a red stocking  my Mom made,
Thar we hung by the tree making the room look great.
Mom wrapped a lot of presents when we weren’t there,
Filling most of the space under the tree with much care.

Mom made fruit cakes that smelled so good in the oven,
She wrapped them with bows and gave them out often.
The mailman and milkman were on her list for a fruit cake.
As were teachers, neighbors, and friends she did make.

On Christmas Eve, we exchanged family gifts, a real treat.
At one or the others home with lots of good stuff to eat.
What a fun time we had that night gathered with each other.
Opening all the great gifts our great Moms got together.

Old Santa Claus slipped into our home later that night.

We were up early checking out the presents at first light.
He always remembered to bring just what
 we asked for,
For this, Old Santa Claus was a guy I did  always adore.

Santa Claus brought gifts for Christmas. Santa is placing gift boxes under Christmas tree

I will be done here in a minute and then I’ll move along.

Santa filled all our stockings right up to the very brim,
With coconuts, apples, oranges, nuts, and gifts from him.
There was candy canes and chocolate candies with goo,
We jumped, hollered, played, and ate all goodies too.

Sarah’s stocking was filled with coconuts, fruit, nuts, and that good old chocolate goo.

.
Mom fixed Christmas dinner of a turkey and dressing,
But we didn’t eat much after that stocking stuff messing.
So we had turkey pot pie foe a while after that day.
Which happened to be one of my favorite meals anyway.

I loved that Mom made turkey pot pie.

We still follow those traditions Mom taught us to honor,
Thank you Mom, for the love you gave to us as our mother.
We think of you often during the new holiday season,
And try to keep this going with your memory a good reason.
