Blue Bonnet Hill

Blue Bonnet Hill

.

I always worked hard at my job as a Phillips Petroleum engineer,
So at the weekends, I was ready for fun with my family so dear.
The poem describes the incredible blooming of the Blue Bonnets.
And might be the beginning of a so called a Blue Bonnet sonnet.

Blue Bonnet Hill

.

Not too far from our house in Houston were hills that turned blue,
When the Blue Bonnets bloomed in the springtime with morning dew.
When the time was right, we would take a trip north just to see the view,
When everything was green and growing in the sun under a sky so blue.

.

We packed a picnic basket, our fishing gear, and our two girls too,
And drove to rolling hills near Brenham, Texas, as a gentle breeze blew.
The hills were covered with Blue Bonnets such a beautiful sight,
We did stop and go viewing of the awesome blue beauty so bright.

Those Blue Bonnet fields in those Texas rolling hills were just awesome giving me that peaceful easy feeling.

At places, there were orange Indian Paint brushes mixed in the blend,
That made the daunting beauty of nature’s wonder go on without end.
Standing there looking at the beauty I had that peaceful easy feeling.
Wondering how God could create the beauty that set my body reeling.

Kristi and Tamara wanted to look at the Blue Bonnet at close range,
So we stopped and inspected this beauty feeling a little strange.
The flower had complicated architecture that was just truly amazing.
It looked like soft blue chairs with pairs of white doves sitting grazing.

Such a beautiful wild flower with just a touch of white contrasting the blue.

After we drank in so much of the scenery, we were feeling woozy.

We headed on North towards Lake Somerville in the rolling hills so cozy.

We noticed as we got to the lake, Blue Bonnets grew there on the bank
Making the lake more beautiful so the good Lord we did thank.

We were surprised to find Blue Bonnets right on the banks of Lake Somerville.

..
We found us a nice spot on the bank to fish and our picnic to eat.
And set the chairs up under a nice shade tree for our outdoor treat.
We had fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans and lemonade,
And it tasted so very good eating outdoors under that tree in the shade.

.

After resting and letting our food settle a while, we enjoyed the view,
We all grabbed our fishing poles and went to the point to fish too.
We used minnows and caught a few crappie and some bass.
The girls were catching fish and just having a great big blast.

If you look closely, you can see us fishing out on that point. We had lunch in those trees back there.

While at Houston, we found so many things to do in the outdoors
Not too far from our home in the Piney Woods where city life soared.
We were only there for a year and a half, but we never got bored.
We looked forward to the weekends as those family times we adored.
