Eye Surgery

Eye Surgery

.
This morning I got up at 5 AM for cataract surgery,
Reporting in at 6:45 AM for the doctor to work on me.
I had to fast with no food or water since the day before,
So I was not in a very good mood as I walked in the door.

Eye Surgery

.

They put me in a room with an easy chair in there,
Where they sat me down as Pam sat in a guest chair.
A lady came in and gave me three eye drops so nice,
And put a little cap on my head with slippers for spice.

.

Every 15 minutes she came in adding drops three.
For 4 times to dilate, add antibiotics, and numb me.
My left eye was flooded each time she did come,
I was real happy by the time the nurse was done.

.

Next a lady came in and put an IV in my right arm,
She got it on the first try which made me feel warm.
Then they walked me back into the operating area,
And laid me on a bed that was just a little bit scary.

.

Then they shot me up with a small dose of anesthetic.
Making me float right into a white cloud like an addict.
They stuck a needle in my eye to numb it up good,
Then moved me to the operating room as they should.

.

The doctor told me I must be absolutely still for now,
And placed a plastic pad over my face with a bow.
There was a hole right where my left eye was, to operate.
Then I heard the doctor say everything looks great.

.

Then there was a bright oval light moving in my eye,
With a small blue ring around the light on the fly.
Around the blue was a light purple haze to the sides,
Sometimes yellow streaks shot to the edge of my eye.

This is as close as I could find.

.

When the laser was on, I heard a high pitched hum,
Causing the colored lights dancing above to come.
As the doctor burned that cataract on out of there.
For the 15 minutes I was under the doctor’s care.

.

The doctor told me everything went extremely well,
Without any problems at all that he was able to tell.
Then they wheeled me on back to the prep room,
Feeling pretty good about things without any gloom.

.

They gave me orange juice and honey bun right then,
Telling me to come back tomorrow morning again.
So the doctor can check and see how the eye looks.
I hope he can put another good success on his books.

.

I hope that with time I will again be able to see well,
So all the fun activities I love so, will not go to hell.
At my age my time just seems to fly by so very fast,
So I guess I’ll know real soon if my eyesight will last.

.

PS   I just took my patch off and I can see much better.
