Dixon Creek Road

.

When I was growing up in Phillips, Texas, long ago,
To get from Phillips to Spring Creek, there was a road,
Called Dixon Creek Road, on which we often did ride,
We went down the hill, to the creek, and up the other side.

We spend a lot of time in the area from Dixon Creek Hill.
Down around the Creek, and on the far hill for thrills.
The area was rich in history from the oil boom days,
With lots of old well remains down along our way.

.

We used to play on the rotted out remains of the wells,
With the wooden wheels and pumping beams that fell.
Most of the old wooden derricks had fallen down,
By the time I was a young kid there in Phillips town.

.

High school kids dug up Indian remains on the far hill,
They found artifacts with the remains laying there still.
The remains and artifacts were put in our school museum,
I went there very often as I really liked to see them.

.

One day I walked down Dixon Creek Hill looking around,
As I was walking, I saw a 7 foot snake skin on the ground.
I took it to school and they put it in the museum too.
I often checked out that skin until with school I was through.

.
Not too long later, some Phillips high school boys,
Were down near Dixon Creek Hill drinking beer so coy,
When they killed a 7 foot rattlesnake under a cliff,
Their picture made the paper with that snake so stiff.

When Bob and I lived in Boger at our nice apartment,
We got on our 305 Honda Scramblers and away we went.
Down Dixon Creek Hill running up those red clay hills,
Nearly every weekend when we had time for big thrills,

.

After I moved to Phillips with Bob, I had a date one night,
We drove down the hill and parked loving just right.
I left the lights on and my 1967 Cyclone did not start.
We walked up hill to our old house not feeling too smart.

.

We picked up my old pickup and headed back down,
I jumped that Cyclone while my date wore a frown.
After dropping off my pickup, I drove her on home,
Marci didn’t take my calls after that night we did roam.

We were visiting Borger at Buffalo Bob’s with our girls,
When Brenda wanted to take them to give Stella a whirl.
Stella was a ghost lady hauntIng Dixon Creek Hill area.
We drove down that hill to the flat road so very scary.

.
We got down and the girls saw Stella in the car lights,
She ran out in the road, stopped, and screamed so right.
The girls were frightened when she did suddenly appear,
Breada sent her brother on ahead to give them a scare.
