Country Music Picker

.

When Pam and I were selling stuff in an antique mall
We searched all over for good stock to sell in our stall.
On those many trips I picked up things for myself too.
Having to do with old country music history so true.

I found an old program for “Johnny Lee Will’s Stampede”,
Rodeo in Tulsa from 1944 that I just loved to read,
I included a page from the program I thought was grand,
As there was a request to buy war bonds from Uncle Sam.

I found an old “Grand Ole Opry” program from way back,
With pictures and write ups on the stars from that pack.
One page had Marty Robbins looking so very young,
And Elvis Presley with his look that the girls stung.

I snatched up a “Musical Tribute to Bob Wills” quick,
Even though the musical tribute book wasn’t thick.
There was lots of pictures and stories about Bob Wills,
That I read all the way through to get a few thrills.

I ran across a “Scrapbook Of Hillbilly and Western Stars”,
With pictures of the stars and a write up of who they are.
I took a photo of a page with Eddy Arnold and Lefty Frizzell,
As they are two artists that I have known very well.

I bought a book called “Spotlight On Country Music”,
As it too was full of country music stars so classic.
There was a full page picture of Carl Smith in there,
Who was one of my favorites way back then , I swear.

I got a “Country Song Roundup” featuring Webb Pierce,
With his high nasal pitched voice that was so fierce,
I recall that Webb had a swimming pool shaped as a guitar,
As at that time he was the number one star by far.

I found an “Ernest Tubb Folio Of Recorded Hits” he had,
There was music inside with pictures from his past.
I pulled a picture out so that you too can take a peek,
At the kind of old classic music stuff I often did seek.

A “Johnny Cash Song and Picture Folio”showed up too,
Inside was music to songs and lots of photos all through.
Johnny was friends with Elvis from his Sun Label days.
Both ended up being super stars in their own way.

I bought a “Merle Haggard Song and Picture Book” also,
With music from his greatest hits and pictures on the go.
In the picture Merle may have been playing with Jones,
As he looks like he is mad all the way down to his bones.

Yes I found an old “Willie Nelson Songbook” one day,
Just look at all of those hits that old Willie did play.
He must have worked very hard playing his guitar,
As he wore a big hole right through the side as a star.
