Cooking With The Grandkids

When our grandchildren come over to stay a while,
We often cook some of our meals up in fun style.
The kids all love to cook so we make it a very big deal,
And we have a great time together preparing the meal.

We fix breakfast twice when Ben and Sarah are here,
As they both love scrambling eggs with great care.
Ben usually gets up first so he whips up the first batch.
With a gleam in his eye as he won the egg cook match.

The next day Sarah comes down real early in her PJs,
So she will not miss her turn on her egg cooking day,
Looking so very cute in her long hanging pig tails,
Doing a terrific job of scrambling eggs without fail.

When Luke was here he helped me with pigs in a blanket,
Wrapping little smokies with a croissant dough jacket,
Then heating them in the oven to a nice golden brown,
Sarah got to them first that day wolfing some on down.

Zack tried his hand at cooking those fine sugar cookies,
With MaMo, even though he was a sugar cookie rookie,
He had fun cutting, cooking, and decorating them,
And MaMo loved every second working close with him.

Sarah and I always whip up the big special relish trays,
Working closely together on all those traditional holidays.
For Christmas,Thanksgiving, and usually Easter dinners,
We once did a veggie tray turkey that was a real winner.

Pam and Luke whipped up a very special fruit tray,
When all the grandkids were here on one fine day.
They made a special marshmallow cream dip for fruit,
And the grandkids just loved the sweet tasting loot.

Kristi cooked pork chops and fried potatoes here,
On my birthday this year as she is always a real dear.
Sarah and I helped by pounding the chops real tender
To make them melt right in your mouth, pure splendor.

One day Sarah and I whipped up spaghetti and meat sauce,
On the stove working close together with Sarah as boss.
Sarah cooked the spaghetti up so very tender and nice,
As I stirred meat sauce adding my very special spice.

Ben was over not too long ago to try a new recipe,
For scrambled eggs with ham chunks inside, you see.
He wore his fedora as he scrambled up those eggs,
While I did the sausage sitting while resting my legs.

Sarah did the biscuits on that day Ben cooked eggs,
Ben dished out the eggs walking around on his legs.
Those eggs were especially good that day with ham,
Everyone there liked them, including old granny Pam.
