Chili Halloween

Chili Halloween

.

Back when we were dancing with the Rhythm Aces,
Ellis and Brenda lived in a nice Grand Lake bank place,
Each Halloween they had a big chili cook out so very great,
Where all the guests dressed up in costumes at Grand Lake.

Ellis would cook up 50 pounds of chili so very fine,
In two big pots over an open fire for a very long time,
He decorated the area and put down hay bales for seats,
With scary lights in the outside area that looked so neat.

.

There were monsters out there seated looking scary.
When the chili got done, the chili pots Ellis did carry,
And hung them both under that shed out by Grand Lake,
And everyone got a big bowl and some chili did then take.

.

Gary and I got a bowl of chili that was oh so good,
As Ellis took a break for a cool one just like he should.
While all the monsters really gorged on his fine chili.
Acting up a little, topping off the grub with beer so chilly.

.

Brenda showed up out there with two country girls,
With lots of freckles and their hair in dog ears with no curls.
The girls were homey in overalls and checkered shirts,
Trying to find good looking boys with which to flirt.

.

Gary with long funky hair and me looking pretty normal,
Sat out there drinking beer not looking too formal,
With that old dry hay bale kind of scratching our ass.
I’ll have to admit, neither one of us had much class.

.

Gary started acting up a little just about that time,
Standing there with his old Kentucky shirt so fine,
Just grinning kind of like a big opossum eating shit.
With one tooth missing kind of throwing a big hissy fit.

.

The other monsters were then starting to get restless,
Trying to get a little attention with antics so very senseless.
With mouths wide open singing the Monster Mash loud,
Entertaining the people there in that Halloween crowd.

.

More people kept coming to eat that good chili gone,
Some of the people I knew but certainly not everyone,
On that cool Halloween night with all having good fun.
As like always, the Aces were always on the fast run.

.

Some people there just ate and enjoyed the fun show,
Even Dolly Pardon came with blonde hair that did glow.
Ellis and Brenda always were the very finest hosts,
On those Chili parties with all the goblins and ghosts.

.

So Brenda and Ellis we thank you so very very much,
For those Halloween chili parties with your special touch.
We love you guys still and all the fun times we once had,
Like in Nashville when we almost got out to Tanya’s pad.
