Boss Squirrel

Boss Squirrel

.

I saw Buffalo cardinal out in my back yard yesterday,
So I called to him with my best whistle right away.
He called right back to me like he knew me quite well,
And I knew Buffalo cardinal had stopped in for a while.

(Read previous blog ”Buffalo Cardinal” first and this one might make more sense)

Buffalo Cardinal seemed to be happy as we talked some,
Whistling back and forth together out there having fun.
He finally left and flew over to my neighbors back yard,
Leaving me there watching him fly by waving so hard.

I decided to put out some sunflower seeds for him to eat,
There on the concrete ledge at my carport front so neat.
I pulled out four handfuls of sunflower seeds from my can,
And spread them along the ledge in a very long line span.

.

We then left and headed to Dink’s to get baby back ribs to eat.
With a side of onion strings, those ribs were hard to beat.
We also got some of their hot curly fries as our good side,
To fill our tummies for a heck of a fine baby back rib dinner ride.

.

When we drove into our drive way after being long gone,
There were three squirrels lined up on the ledge at home.
So I stopped the car, and rolled the window right down,
To sit and watch them peeling seeds without a sound.

.

On the right was a big squirrel stuffing seeds in his mouth,
A middle sized squirrel was eating just off to his south.
On the edge kind of sneaking was a smaller squirrel too,
There seemed to be a pecking order until they got through.

.

The middle sized squirrel chased the small squirrel away.
Leaving only two of them eating the seeds left in the array.
There were not too many seeds for them both to eat.
So big squirrel jumped all over the middle squirrels meat.

.

We knew the big one was “Boss Squirrel” now there alone,
As the other one kept sneaking back for more on his own.
Boss Squirrel was getting meaner each time he came back,
Rolling him and biting him hard chasing right on his track.

.

Finally, Boss Squirrel was there all alone for a long time,
So we got out of the car and Boss Squirrel did hit the line.
I checked and found no seed uneaten, just hulls every where.
So they didn’t leave Buffalo Cardinal one single seed there.

.

Buffalo Cardinal landed there by Boss Squirrel one time,
And Boss Squirrel attacked him trying to bite his behind.
So I got four more hand fulls of sunflower seeds on out,
To spread them on the ledge for Buffalo Cardinal, no doubt.

Boss Squirrel ate every single one of them.

.

I hope Buffalo Cardinal gets up early tomorrow morning,
Before Boss Squirrel hogs all the seeds with no warning.
I’ll check tomorrow and put out some more good seeds,
To try to be sure he gets all the seeds that he does need.

Buffalo Bob a while back who we miss a lot this time of year.

PS: The next morning when we looked out the window, two squirrels were out there eating more seeds. I hope Buffalo Cardinal got up very early to feed on the sunflower seed. I put some more out just in case.

Thanks for reading Boss Squirrel,
